My other post about Club and Con figure speculation got me to thinking about the next series of figures.

The 25th line was a complete overhaul of action figure design, as the 25th line progressed, improvements were made to the figures in design and articulation.

This led into the Rise of Cobra line of figures, who most will agree, are better over all figures than the 25th. Within the RoC line, we also got figures of characters that weren't in the movie.

Following the RoC line we got Pursuit of Cobra. Most have said that so far, this is the best series of figures in the whole line. We got reimaging of some characters like Duke, Hawk and Snake Eyes, got some desired characters like Low Light, and got some cool new characters like What's his name, the Cobra with the dread locks and skull mask...Shadow something (damn, seriously guy's name slipped my mind) and Night Adder.
Following PoC, we got the 30th line and Renegades. Again a few holes were filled with Airtight and Lifeline as well as the characters ad represented in the show.

These later three lines have all been great figures and filled some holes that needed filling.

Now we have Retaliation figures. For the most part good figures, but lacking in some areas. With these later waves in the Retaliation line, like the RoC line, we're getting characters not featured in the film. What I'm noticing with this last wave of figures is a return to PoC like quality. The figures returned to full articulation and most are coming with a good number of accessories.

Now my question is, what comes next? What is Retaliation's "Pursuit of Cobra?"

We can only hope that Hasbro has realised that we have enough Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Cobra Commander figures. Perhaps a return to the Pursuit of Cobra concept is in order. Some reimaging of classic figures like Major Bludd, Wild Bill, Scrap Iron, Frostbite and Tripwire would be nice. Moreso what I would love to see is a continuation of the 25th/30th line. We have almost everyone from 82-86, and lots of 87. To see characters from 88-94 would make almost every Joe fan happy. We have Top Side, Budo, SS and SE from that era, it'd be great to see it continued.
Within this time frame, lots of characters got second and third figures, not all of them need to be remade. Some characters/figures don't need to be made. I love Payload, but would a modern era version be needed? Same with the rest of the Space Corps figures. I doubt Hasbro would rerelease the Defiant or even the Crusader, so astronaut figures might not be as fun. Some figures might get over looked as well because they came with a vehicle that's not going to be released again.

Ultimately, I'd love to see the DiC 'toon era characters making up the bulk of the next series of figures. New characters would be welcomed as always.

I don't think there is a next, at least not at retail any time soon.

I believe your Club figure speculation thread provides a pretty realistic idea of what's next for Joe fans: annual membership figures, subscription figures and convention sets.

Unless the 50th anniversary manages to bring back Joes in stores beyond the same 3 peg warmers, I'm afraid Spin is right. The new figures are awesome, but they're not reaching the grand public and I doubt that the fistful of collectors that got theirs online are enough to keep the brand alive.

I can't imagine that Hasbro doesn't have something in the works for the 50th Anniversary, but the retailers may take some convincing. THAT'S my main concern. Keeping fingers crossed, etc.

About the only thing that could drag me back into collecting at this point is for Hasbro to do a set of 3.75 Joes based on the original 12" line plus the later AT figures and sets.
