Just wondering about the current line of Retaliation figures.

We all pay full price when it's in package, But how can you speculate the cost of the figures when the cardbacks they came with aren't worth salvaging or collecting? And how are the "loose" out of the package figures being priced nowadays? Is it due to popularity of the characters? Will the prices drop once the movie hype simmers down months afterwards?

The loose figures are worth what people are willing to pay. On Ebay that is usually full price in my experience. But over time it should come down a bit, maybe to $6 or $8 with shipping. And some will be more sought after than others for whatever reason.

Same as anything else. Desirability, rarity, condition. The more rare and desirable a figure the higher the price. For instance I've seen that 3-pack Firefly going for as much as the retail cost of the whole 3-pack itself due to it's popularity. The only time the packaging factors into the price if it's a MOC collector looking for the best example for their collection or if someone is collecting filecards which the Retaliation figures don't have.

I believe it depends on what a person is willing to pay for it.

I've noticed that the prices of loose figs has inched up a bit, and I think that's just a function of the economy and the relative weakness of the dollar right now.

For Retaliation, loose figures tend to be the same price as carded figures on Ebay because many of them are new and unplayed with figures that have simply been taken out of the package to ease shipping.

Some figures get higher price points based on popularity like the recent 3-pack Firefly or the Dark Ninja while the first 3-pack Storm Shadow which is a repaint of the single card figure can easily be found for about $6.

I noticed the same thing a few months back on eBay. It seems like the lack of new product made the prices go up on Joe (and Marvel Universe) figs across the board. All modern-era figs seem to be selling for $5-$7 at minimum once you factor in shipping. Even though everyone claims to hate ROC, they still sell for more than what I'm willing to pay. And POC and 30th are selling high, whether loose or carded. In fact, I've seen the loose figs sell higher than carded numerous times.

I really wish I had bought all those Renegades Duke figs at retail last year. I didn't realize at the time how versatile it was for LBC's. I would've saved money paying $6-$7 retail instead of what they go for loose now :-/

Figs in general will be going up due to the fact that the base price of new figures have gone up. 5 years ago Wal-Mart was selling the 25th at $5 each all year, now the Wal-Mart new price is $10 a figure. That will automatically drag all prices up.
