i haven't seen this anywhere so if this is being talked about please place in that topic. but with the movie line where are the stands and file cards were paying 10+ for a fig and we cant get a stand or file card with them or the drivers. its bad enough some of the figs have no articulation to some. but this is nuts not to get those 2things with them.

File cards have been garbage since they stopped swiping from the originals for the 25A figures anyway, so that's no big loss. Figure stands, well, I don't miss those either, personally. I've got a million of 'em and don't even use any of them.

The backer card of the Retaliation line features a brief description of the character.
It's far from the elaborate file cards we had during the RAH days, but it's better than nothing.

Agreed on the first part, and I use the figure stands from SmallJoes which are really good.

If this were a line with no media backing it, I could understand the need for filecards, but for a movie line, we're supposed to know who these characters are from the movie. Even then, do you really need another filecard for Snake Eyes or Cobra Commander? The lack of stands I get. I'm disappointed by that too, but if it helps keep costs down, I'd rather loose those than some accessories or something.

When I think of the missing file cards, I don't regret that for myself, but for the kids that are getting these toys. I used to save them and store them in a makeshift file cabinet as if it was their personnel files. It was a part of my whole play experience as a kid, flipping through and pretending I was the top brass and deciding which soldiers to send on a mission as I examined thier credentials. I know its just nostaligia on my part, but its too bad a kid today couldn't do that.

i hadnt even noticed the file cards, i guess since i was a kid in 82 i have never saved or looked at the file cards. i also never use the stands i dont like to use stands i want them to be able to stand on there own, but that being said i still feel they should have a stand.

they already cut costs with cheap plastic, some to no articulation on a few of the figs. if they got rid of those spring loaded guns or the zip line things they would have enough money for stands, i dont need the file cards but if ppl are just getting in to the line with the movie it would be nice for them. also they are 10bucks a fig when there where only 7 or 8 and back in 05 06 they had 2 figs for 5 bucks, hasbro is making money on them no matter what they put in the packages.

they did give us a few jems but over all the movie line is a fail for me. as its like 20/80 i like or has great gear, parts and articulation. but figs like joe who looks like a hobo , CC, flint, duke and the vehicle drivers sucks i dont like ninjas anymore so they are a pass for me im so sick of SE and SS i dont need any more besides the ultimate ones as those are more 30anny figs with cool ass back packs. ill get the ultimate duke and use him as red spot with no paint just straight up use him for red spot with the helmet head as it looks like red spot anyway.

I don't get this cheap plastic nonsense. The figures don't feel any different to me than they did before. The spring loaded stuff is there for the kids. They love that stuff. Most kids don't care about the filecards because they're just part of the packaging which gets thrown out. Stands too. They aren't making displays and dioramas. They're playing with their figures, putting them into vehicles, smashing them into each other. You know, kid stuff. A lot changes in 5 years. Cost of production has gone up since then so they have to do what they can. Movie lines are also more expensive than a normal line because Hasbro has to pay licensing that they don't normally have to otherwise. It's unfortunate that there's not more in the line that you enjoy, but a lot of the things you object to aren't going to change. There's always going to be CCs, Duke, SE and SS in the line as they're core characters and that's what retailers want on their shelves. This line is going to have lots of ninjas because that's a core aspect of the film. The quality of the vehicle drivers are lessened in order to put more into the vehicle.

I can only go off what I see and that's a small sampling, but this is it. GF's son loves Joe, but he doesn't even realize file cards were on packages he's had in the past and stands go to whoever, if they're used at all. But he loves spring loaded launchers. He uses then a lot. If you asked him what to drop, I think it would be what has already been dropped.

As a Kid I loved filecards. as did Dusty who just mentioned that in this thread. thinking back all of my friends kept file cards too. The joes of the 80s didn't get gimmicky until the line died. Now gimmicks are used constantly. We here from Hasbro, kids like launchers, kids like rope things... and you know what they might, for about a half hour. Those file cards helped turn a figure into a character for many kids. Joes that had little media presence all had characterization thanks to a file card. Now am I up in arms about it? No they are just toys. However, dismissing fans complaints; over something that helped make them love a toy for thirty years, due solely to a claim a company made seems unreasonable. Hasbro is clearly running itself into the ground, the major toy companies are all loosing ground to video games or whatever. They could easily make that ground up on the backs of "fans" but they don't. They could probably even recapture the children's markets in a similar way as they did in the 80s. Strong constant media presence, including a video game line, stock constantly on the shelves... but they don't. Maybe kids just don't read any more. Maybe that is a bigger issue we should all be concerned with.

i guess we were all more different than i thought as kids. none of my friends kept or ever even looked at the file crads, yeah it was package and package was trash to be ripped apart and disposed of as soon as possible. and we didnt have stands yet but they started making them in those weapons packs and we would throw them immediately to the side. i personally never liked action features, i found things like pop up arms or swivel waists or spring loaded hands or battery powered things annoying as a child.
but for me as a selfish adult collector that doesnt have or want kids i dont like movie figures of joe or superheroes in the first place. if it doesnt look like sunbow or arah its not the character to me. i cant stand figures that look like some actor that i may or may not like in the first place and that doesnt look like the character anyway.

As a kid, I didn't collect GI Joes until my teens. Before that I was into Transformers and Star Wars. I never kept any of my tech specs either. If it had been Joes, I doubt it would have been any different. Some of you may have done differently, but you're not the norm. Hasbro does studies on this stuff, guys. They're not morons.
