Okay, I got my G.I. Joe Club Magazine in the mail today. Right off we see the new Crimson Guard for 2013.

I'm impressed. I like the addition of the combat vest. It gets the "dress uniform" Crimson Guard out of the boardroom and onto the battlefield more effectively than ever.

And according to the details, this figure comes with a sheet of emblem labels that let the buyer customize his Crimson Guards into various ranks and divisions.

This, however, leads to a question -- where is one supposed to put the labels? On the sleeves? Will they fit well and stay put on those pockets? Back in 1984, I had a heck of a time getting that American Flag label to stay put on Duke's arm. And these have go to be be some pretty tiny labels. Tweezers, anyone? ;-)

Don't get me wrong -- I LIKE the idea. And I certainly like the look of the Guard. I just hope it works well.

I saw that too. I actually don't care for the vest, I want to see him without it.

Well it's a standard 25th Anniversary CG torso underneath, but without the belt, so there'll be an empty groove there.

Crimson Guard don't belong in the battlefield.

What he said.

They really don't even belong in helmets or facemasks. But those look cool so I understand it.

I welcome the new CG for the new head sculpt and vest. I think the choice of parts for the rest of the body is weird. Shock trooper arms on a CG torso. His arms say battlefield but his torso says senior prom.

Yea, that's an awkward looking figure. I'm glad some people have a boner for it, but for me it's a great big ol' pass.

Crimson Guard Immortal was a fantastic update. It was a bad ass "battle ready" CG.

That Retaliation version not.

But you know there will be people who will buy these over things like rent, student loan payments, food, beer, medicine, etc. The need to have one will outweigh all logic.

The figure's only saving grace is the sticker sheet and to a lesser extent the vest.

Yeah, easy pass on this.

I'm more interested in the Night Viper, but the images I've seen of that didn't provide a good enough look to determine if I'm excited or not.

Either way, I'm in the process of downsizing my standing Cobra army. And I've already got more "elite" troops than I need (not that I see CGs as regular army - that's a dress uniform for parades and rallies and such).

Of all the 1:18 properties out there, I'm probably least enthused about Joe. Can't even get up the energy to customize them at this point. Too little time and far too many DC characters I know we'll never see in a decently sized/proportioned format to spend any effort recovering well trodden ground.
