In the thread about the aborted SK Omega, a lot of the disappointment stems from the fact that it was to be an O-ring line, and so now there will be no new sources for O-ring figures. What I'm curious about is why specifically do you want O-ring figures? Is it for the aesthetic? For the ease of disassembly? Some other reason?
If there were a line out there that you could easily disassemble/swap parts/customize, would you collect that, or is it the specific O-ring design that you desire?

I want:

1) New characters to add to the universe
2) New supply of easily disassembled parts
3) Fodder
4) Lots of fodder
5) Army Builders
6) Fodder
7) More fodder...

I think that nostalgia plays a huge part in the o-ring success.
The ease of disassembly added to the fun factor of that kind of figures.

I'd buy more o-ring figures to expand that side of my little world, because my adult mind has a very tough time in mixing the RAH and 25th+ figures.

The aesthetics of the Standard Buck... A lot went into the design of Vintage Joes...they were detailed...yet simple. It's quite easy to differentiate Vintage Joes from any other similar toy line... This makes anything else stand out when next to a Vintage Joe.

Compatability...with Vehihicles, playsets, in Customizing, and in Display...

Durability in Engeineering... I NEVER broke a Vintage figure right out of the package... and I'm sure I was a hell of a lot rougher as a kid than I am as an adult... Figures might have been a little stiff right off the card, but they worked loose easily... With Modern figures, I've had a number of hands, feet, knees, etc that are either misformed, fused, or too soft to be functional

Pose-ability and range of motion... The Standard Buck established and maintained the articulation....the arms all bent to the same degree and rotation...same for the legs.

Nostalgia. Compability of parts. Easy desassembly and customization. High quality.
I still need to buy some characters and still need to make a lot of customs.

The main thing I miss about O-Ring figures is the roughly standard buck. Part A almost always fit with Part B. Combine that with easy disassembly and you have a winner.

I only collect modern figures BTW. Vintage figures are outside my price/availability range.

All I collect are O-ring. All I customize are O-ring. The figures are highly playable, with great molds. They are easy to dissassmble and paint, and with all the available parts the possibilties of mixing and matching parts are near endless.
I tried buying ME figures, but they were tough to find at retail, and didn't mesh with the hundreds of figures I already had, so I made a decision to focus on O-ring only.

By customizing I can continue to expand my collection and introduce new characters or update existing ones.

I was excited about SK Omega because it offered me: New characters, new vehicles, new fodder, new accessories that would have worked with my already massive ARAH collection.

The elasticity of the o-ring combined with the waist movement let them do a lot of cool stuff. I know people move properly at the chest not the waist, but I want fun toys not anatomical models.

I just found a shoe box of my ARAH figs and I can remember the hours of playing and frankinjoeing them.

Not so. It's been scientifically proven by Professor Frank Sinatra that in order to do the hucklebuck, one must be able to start a little movin' in the sacroiliac. Modern Joe construction negates this while the o-ring allowed it. Therefore the logical conclusion must be that the o-rings provide more realistic movement.

Nostalgia has a lot to do with it for me. It is just the style I grew up on. But there are so many other reasons.
The standard buck was a great thing. Pretty much any figure fit in any vehicle.
Easy ability to swap parts.
Stronger construction, no bendy arms/legs.
Figures can actually hold on to their accessories.
You set a pose and it stays because of the sturdy construction. Bendy plastic bends just by sitting there.
I hate that stupid chest joint on the current figures. Last time I checked, Chubby Checker was doing the Twist at his waist and not in the middle of his chest.
And for me, the new figures always look disproportionate. Legs and bodies are always too long it seems.

The o-ring itself doesn't matter to me. What aesthetically worked better on the o-ring figures, to me at least, was that the articulation was hidden at the waist instead of being unnecessarily obvious across the middle of the chest. If the o-ring, as a device, was replaced with a similar internal swivel, it really wouldn't matter providing that the articulation point remains the waist.

If anything, I'd like to see o-ring figures return, but with some of the 25A+ features added: swivel wrists, double hinged knees, pop-off heads.

The swivel wrists would have to be a bit more durable than the current versions, which are often too loose, making it hard to place accessories in the figures' hands. This could be eliminated by including alternate hands already holding weapons.

while I personally have no preference over the modern era versus the ARAH o-rings, I just like be O ring versions just for nostalgia purposes. I have also noticed that while I have more modern era figures I have more o-ring characters. I have gotten better about customizing modern era figures however the O ring figures are sure a heck of a lot easier to customize.
