In 2004, we were in a weird place with Joe. The RAH line was dying/dead, and we were left in what some call the 2nd Generation of Joe. It was plagued with odd proportions, and odd vehicles, but what it was great for was new characters. With the Pulverizer Mech, we were given the son of (in)famous Joe character Kwinn. An odd duck to be sure. He was very physically different from his father, and seemed to be a paradox himself. Raised to be a tracker/hunter by Inuits, but somehow became a mech jockey? Even his name doesn't really lend itself to his physical appearance, or his specialty.

Now personally I like Ghost Bear, and think it was a neat figure that could use an update along with a few others in the 2nd Gen era like Dart, and Bombstrike. Hell, I'd take a much less generic looking Barrel Roll too, but I digress.

With all the fervor surrounding Kwinn, does anyone else want an update to his son? Does anyone else even like him?

I liked those characters and designs that we got during that run. In fact, I would take those over Kwinn.

Ghost Bear is a cool character concept, and a cool figure.
The problem is the two don't really fit together.

I think General Hawk nailed an aspect that is kinda cool. Ghost Bear doesn't have the spiritual sense of honor that his father had. He's much more ruthless.

I like him, and I love this custom of him

But don't really know how to facilitate him into my Joeverse. I see him as a mercenary, like his Dad, but no further thoughts.

now, THERE is a use for that Firefly!

question: what's that supposed to be on his head? Hair? a Toque?

Pretty sure that's his hair. Which fits for the character I think.

I see him as one of those stereotypical Native American type kids that was raised in a traditional way, with his ancestry and heritage a prominent part of his upbringing. But he's bitter and angry because his father left him at an early age and so he rejects his heritage and tries to make his way in the modern world. He kept the name he was given, Ghost Bear, so his family will know what he's doing and how he's getting on without their influence. A way to kind of stick it to them if you will.

All the skills and attributes of his father with none of the morality or spirituality of his ancestors. He'll never shake being the mighty Kwinn's son, but he will try to be more feared, more merciless, and more infamous than his father ever was. Just think of the kind of torment you would have when you are set up from the beginning to compete with your father's legacy. I'd throw in that Ghost Bear probably had a few hard lessons thrown his way in the short spurts he got to see Kwinn between jobs. So think A Boy Named Sue minus the possibility of ever making up at the end. All he is left with is an immense hatred for the man he can never kill and the Joes who took that opportunity away from him.

Let's talk about Ghost Bear baby, let's talk about you and me, let's talk about all the good things and the bad things there may be.

Let's talk abouuuuut Ghost Bear.

Umm, good: connection to past mythos.
Bad: Kwinn's son is Carrot Top.

Redesign, give him a crap ton of survival tools, maybe a tent and you've got a winner.

I like the idea of the character and now that I've seen that custom, that will be my universe Ghost Bear.

Of all the people on JC from whom I NEVER expected to see a Salt-n-Pepa song reference, you’d have easily been in the top five. Like, maybe two spots behind Trekker and immediately in front of joemichaels… :chiefty:

I like him. I'm not quite sure how I characterize him, definitely some bits of the rebellious, driven to surpass aspect others have outlined. I also like his potential as a StormmShadow like figure, in that he's working for Cobra under false pretenses, not knowing that his father rejected them in the end. I wouldn't ever have him reform or change sides, but I do like that Cobra Commander is in the habit of keeping people close to him that would want him dead if they knew the truth.

I don't know what you're talking about. Trekker sends me his old tapes from the concerts that he trades on S&PCustoms.com. Thought that was common knowledge. :rotfl:

I really like the character and have had him on my list of customs to make for a while now. Oddly enough, I considered using the Renegades Firefly as well.

I definitely see him as more of a techie who designs and operates all kinds of new technology for Cobra. I don't really think of him as being Kwinn's son.

After learning the truth of his father's death Ghost Bear turned on The Cobra organization and swore allegiance to William Kessler. Until he was discovered as a traitor he was able to sabotage many of Cobra's missions. He also used his access to smuggle weapons and smaller vehicles away to The Springfield Underground. After The Underground helped him escape Cobra Island, Ghost Bear removed the mask and became Billy's bodyguard alongside Tiger Claw. Along with Zanya's new generation of Dreadnoks, Darklon, and Crusher (former Cobra experimental soldier COIL Crusher), The Underground was able to take control of Cobra and renamed Cobra Island, Springfield. Since gaining recognition as a country, Springfield prospered and Billy assumed the mantle of Cobra Commander III. Now with a powerful military armed by the United States and Darklonian Technology, Springfield has declared war on the world and dared any outsider to tread on their land. Through it all Ghost Bear has remained silently behind Billy but that could change in the future.
