That's what I don't like about what's going on in the Joe comics.
They introduce a whole bunch of random new Joes to have them die a few panels later.
They're like red shirts, new character that you know won't be there for long.

The flipside is that fans have a conniption if a "classic" character is killed. So thems the breaks.

How about writing issues where no Joes die?
Larry Hama wrote a big bunch of those!

And he's writing more in the ARAH title.

Yes but they tended to be more isolated incidents, out of all the characters introduced between 1982 and 1994 I think fewer than 20 died overall.

Are they Joes or Cobra? Is there a list of dead cobra?

I think all those characters actually died off panel and never appeared beyond having their names listed.

:-| Those codenames are a good reason why old guys shouldn't be allowed to write comics.

"New Joe names. Army guys use guns. Let's just look up gun terminology."

I think it's less a lack of creativity than it is that most of the good names have been used multiple times. Also, assuming Chuck Dixon did come up with those names, he's probably in his 60s by now, which puts him in Larry Hama's generation.

Though if I were going to make up a bunch of cannon fodder characters, I wouldn't spend a lot of effort on cool names for them either.

The other name listed was Wratchet, not a misspelling of a tool but another gun term. Also Hotwire, which was used for a Cobra character. Good names taken, indeed.

They still didn't mostly have to be gun jargon, though.

Well, the solution would be to not create characters just to die. That's way lazier than the names, but then that's why I don't read that book.

Where is the link with all these characters?

I think it had the death list...
