http://forgotten-figures.blogspot.com/2 ... guard.html

I was reading the above article when it occurred to me that I no longer care about army building. During the SpyTroops era, I got into it with buying those BATs. It's why I ended up with so many Widescope figures, much to my chagrin. I also bought all those pin headed new sculpt vipers. At the time, 20 of a troop seemed normal to me, and the last thing I army built like that was the DTC Crimson Guard. I recall seeing posts of people showing off their Cobra rallies and being jealous because it looked so cool.

Fast forward a little ways, and I decided that five of a squad was enough, but that didn't last hardly at all.

Now, I just don't care. I'll buy a single blue shirt or Viper, but that's because I think I can fiddle with it to make an LBC out of it.

Anyone else still obsessing about army size?

I prefer to call it 'Fodder Build'.

If I happen to find a bunch of ARAH figures for a good price, I'll get them.

The ones I really have gotten multiples of were the newest Scarlett, Tunnel Rat, and Ripcord. Someone on eBay had them for about $3-$4 a piece, so I got a bunch.

Picked up a few Cobra Troopers at Target. Turned one into a custom in my thread...

I army built 25th BATs and Jungle Vipers. Other than that, fodder builders.

I Army built from 25th Throught the 30th line. The DG Joe's, Im just going 1 each, no desire to army build there. With Retiliation, I only wanted to army build a few Red Ninjas, but doubt that'll happen with Hasbro saying only a limited number of Retilation stuff is coming this year.

I love the new Joe Trooper, but he's more of a fodder builder. I plan on giving all of them different heads to have a O13ish Joe team.

The rest of them, I'll get a couple of. If I like them.

I went a bit crazy about the 25th Cobra Troopers and VvV Night Watch, but now I tend to stick with small teams of 5.
I don't plan on getting the Retaliation trooper, but I might buy a few Red Ninja.

I still do what I have done. I get 2 to 5 of the "soldiers". Any nameless figures I'll get extra. It depends on who the character is. I like the upcoming red ninjas, but I have an "army" of 4 from the previous release so I'll probably limit these to just 2. The new Cobra trooper I might get 3 before it's all said and done.

But I don't get tons and tons of any of them. I think in a perfect world where I had a huge setup and spent days enjoying my layouts, I'd probably do it. But just getting an hour or 2 in a day to look at them and then have more important stuff to do, the small armies are ok.

I've never used more than 2-3 at a time so unless their is some kind of rank distinction or color variation I don't get more than that. Nothing against people who do. I'm glad they found something in the line that interests them and I too love seeing the Cobra rallies. Once I notice a build up of troopers, they're the first ones added to the prune pile.

I still do, if I like the figure. My eventual goal (which is actually getting nearer to reality) is to have a building/house that can be my get-away/private toy museum. When that day comes, I'll be setting up some dioramas that'll need filler figures.

See, and that was my line of thought. When I had all my army builders set up, it looked crazy cool. Then I didn't have room anymore, and realized I was more into named characters

I can see that and was to the point where I was considering getting rid of a lot of stuff and not building anymore. Then I had a change of location/change of station thing have and as a side effect, will have more space than I can imagine (for instance, if I get the one place I'm looking at, it's 3 levels, totaling 15,000 sq ft. 2 levels will be rented out, but the third will be mine. That's ~5,000 sq ft I can fill with beer and toys.)

These days, I only army build when I find something really cheap. I don't really collect modern, just "new sculpt" era and vintage ARAH, and that stuff is aging. I'm not gonna pay a lot for something that might fall apart in my hands. With new sculpt stuff, it has to be dirt cheap. Since that segment has been largely abandoned by fans, why pay much?

I did get some RoC Neo-Vipers when Target blew them out for under a dollar.

Anyway, I never do enough with my Cobra army to justify spending a lot enlarging it. The days of everyone trying to out do each other with row after row of Cobra troops is past. In the end, as cobra troop types were more readily available at retail, it was mostly all about who had the most money to spend.

Yup. Still army building RAH Alley Vipers--got another v1 just last week. Other than those, no real army building to speak of.

I ended up with eight POC Cobra Troopers, and 11 Vipers. That's as far as I've gone in recent years. Some of them are to decorate displayed vehicles; some are guarding something; and some are battle posed.
