Post subject:  True Heroes Amphibious Vehicle (Chap Mei Piranha) now at TRU

Hello all:

I was in my Toys R Us in Media, PA today and saw that True Heroes has a new Amphibious Vehicle playset, based on the Chap Mei Piranha armored car. I have some pics and a quick review.

The vehicle is a pretty good size, but not as nice as the other 6-wheel armored car Chap Mei put out a few years ago (based on the Fox APC) that I recommend you pick up in any of the paint schemes. I checked the pictures on the Jomi toys site and they made some changes.

First, the vehicle is now black overall with silver parts. This is not nearly as nice as the original camo color. It looks pretty plain.

Second, they replaced the missle launcher with a static machine gun, which does not move in any direction.

Third, the removed the light and sound feature, and GLUED the door shut. It still has a latch, but you can't open it. This is because the have filled the interior of the vehicle with foam blocks so it floats now.

It does have an opening hatch on the turret roof. The main gun comes with a travel lock installed that you have to remove if you want to move the turret around. It does turn all the way to the rear. The main gun barrel has a solid tip, that I will no doubt be drilling out soon.

And last, the added a HUGE plow to the front and a gunner station at the rear. The rear door how has two seatbacks so two figures can sit facing backwards.

The price was $26.99, which seems a little high to me. I almost passed on it but I am a sucker for 6-wheel armor...

FYI, I was able to remove the front plow and rear gunner station. Looks much better.

I was also able to open the rear door (carefully) by popping it out of the back hinges and lifting it up. The inside is filled with a large foam brick for flotation.

I want one and I want the head from that guy on the right (not the tanker guy)...

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. Thanks.

the black and silver/steel make it an easy Cobra or Iron Grenadiers custom.

But the one opening hatch doesn't cut it. Not for a $26.99 toy. Even that 20+ year old Lanard CORPS tank has 4 crew positions.

The Piranha still doesn't hold a candle to the APC from a few years ago - this thing rocks. I have it in both SWAT and MP colors. Still have not been able to find the other APC (Crimebuster) which is also pretty neat too.

That MP APC definitely rocks, and I'm glad I picked it up back when it was readily available at Big Lots.

DarkJedi, the figure you mentioned is also available with the AB-117 Tiburon (aka C-130) set. I've got it and can probably hook you up with it.

Saw this today. Pretty neat, but I'll wait till late to pick it up. Also saw a helipad thing with lights/sounds and a little helicopter. Kinda neat, but it was $40 and I only wanted the landing pad.
