Picked up the 30th Techno -Viper today, and was sent back to 1987. At that time my mother was working on somthing at Gold Circle (now target) can't rember what but i rember being there countless hours just wondering around the store. Gold Circle at the time was running a sale on the joes, 3 for 5 with, Iceberg, Zandar, Monkeywrench, Viper and Zarana being on the shelf at that time. I had all of them so this is when I started army building. Then one day an offering from the new wave was on the shelf Chuckles Falcon
Crazylegs and a bunch of weird cobra guys, didn't realy like none of the So I picked up the 2 tech-vipers they had. Back then I thought he was overkill for someone who works on tanks. Why would cobra need such a troop, then the vehicles started to pop up and now I see why you must have needed a degree from Georgia Tech to work on some of that stuff cobra was putting out. (Did you know to become an Ice Viper you have to become an EEl then a Snow Serpent and train as a techno- viper)

Cool memories. I got into collecting after developing a deep envy of my buddy's Lt. Falcon figure. I think I confused him with Flint from the cartoon. Loved his shotgun, knife and backpack. Bummer was, this was late 1988, and the 1987 figures were nowhere to be found.

I was home sick one day and my dad showed up with one of the storied figures: Chuckles! Working holster! Awesome!

I didn't find a techno-viper during the original run. But I did dig his Bronze repaint in the 1990s Star Brigade line.

I wasn't expecting to dig the 30th Techno-Viper much, but he turned out to be one of my favorites from the wave.

While I wasn't as impressed with the 30th Techno as I wanted to be, I do dig the figure largely bacause I just dig the idea.

Cobra was always depicted as using weapons and hardware on the leading edge of tech (heck, one of the Commander's specialties was listed as Experimental Ordnance), so it makes sense that they'd need at least one really smart guy in the field every time (especially with all those blueshirts who could never seem to figure out even conventional Warsaw Pact small arms to the point where they could actually hit anyone).

And I've always loved the pseudo-realistic nature of Cobra's training programs, or at least the way one could move up in the ranks through aptitude and education. I added Techno-Viper training to the list of requirements for my H.E.L.L.-Viper custom troop, and put him near the top of Cobra's enlisted pay scale because of it.

I miss the details like required training, psych evaluation excerpts and humorous nods to military beurocracy/red tape that made those 80s file cards such great reading.

I loved the original TV, and I couldn't believe he came with so many accessories. The only gripe I had was the helmet sculpt was really flat compared to the packaging art. The 30th TV has fixed that... it's incredible.

Techno was one of the few figs I picked up from that year. I thought originally the purple looked weird but soon began to love him. I had bought him purely for his speciality, but out of the box I just loved the figure and he is one of my top 20 ARAH figs to this day.

I personally can't wait to grab the 30th version. He (and a few others in waves 3 $ 4) are the first Joe figs I have been excited about before getting them all year (Since Low Light and Shadow Tracker at the least)

I just wanted the guy based on Short's Shorts, over at Joe Battle Lines. Hoping I'll be able to get a second one.

I found two Techno-Vipers and a Renegades Trooper yesterday at Wal-Mart (somebody bought the remainder of the case, but left the troop builders.) Both are pretty cool.
I had the original Techno-Viper when I was a kid. I can honestly say I never had much use for him then. I don't think I completly understood the concept when I was seven. Needless to say I do now.

I finally got one out of the package. I haven't said before, but I actually did not care for the Techno Viper back when they first came out. I didn't see a use for them and I didn't really care for the figure.

This new one changed all that. He has a great look to him first of all where as the original one looked more like a pilot to me. I see this figure now as an engineer. He has a "future construction worker" look to him. I ended up getting 2 as I figure they probably would work best in pairs if not individually. A whole group of them seems like they'd clash with each other.

I sort of think that each weapon/tool should have it's own hose. That just seems like a flaw for them to have to take off one item and reconnect another. That's real life and how it usually works, but it just seems like they'd each have their own hose. Or at least the pneumatic tools having their own canister and the welding gun having it's own.
