follow up to this tutorial:

i assume that the floor treatment is filling any scratches in the canopy plastic, and possibly adding a slight layer of acrylic to the existing plastic, giving it a 'solid' coating -- here's my question(s)-

you suggest not doing this to canopies for vehicles that might be sold, or tried to keep 'original' -- why? does it make the canopy 'thicker'? does it change the color some? it seems like maybe it adds a little yellow to the canopy -- is that just my impression from the video? After the canopy dries, is there any 'stickiness' to it? is there any danger or damage from water being splashed or dripped onto the canopy after it dries?

Its very obvious when you do this restoration. I mean, its BEYOND shiny and new looking. For my own reasons I think it comes off as dishonest to push it onto some one as authentic once its been altered.

No, no stickiness. I suggest leaving it in direct sunlight for as long as possible. It will be dry to the touch in 5-10 minutes, but I like to let it 'cook' on. I havent noticed any damage from water being splashed on it, but I think if you drop it or do something to scratch it, it may be affected. I dont think most of us here actually sit down and play with the stuff, so this should be just fine for display and customs.

When I first heard about this, the person who told me warned me to cover it with a clear bin or something so dust and dirt wouldn't stick to it when it dries. Have you had any problems with that?

Not really, but I can see the possibility of something (dust/insect) landing on it and dinkin' it up. Just a matter o' luck I 'spose.

ZOMBIE THREAD.

So I FINALLY got a chance to try this over the weekend, on a Tomahawk canopy and the TTBP windshield. I didn't have the best container to put them in, so it ended up taking nearly the entire bottle of the floor polish, but I think they turned out great. The Tomahawk canopy was fugly before hand, and it looks much better now.

its really an easy fix, and fills in a lot of the flaws, and holds VERY well over time.

ive only tried future floor wax. i 'spose its possible other brands work better (or worse!).

I just watched the videos and it looks pretty easy to do.

Can you re-use the floor wax for other times or is this strictly a one-use application?

I think you could just pour it into a separate container. As long as it wasn't dirty, right?

It is the same stuff, just renamed. I prefer this stuff for canopies:

I find the #1 is usually more than sufficient to fix most canopies, and it's just spray and wipe.
