I seriously don't know why these didn't make it to most retail stores, this IMHO was the most anticipated wave from IM2 other than the helmetless wave.

There was no helmetless wave, it was a box set.

But as I said this is that classic "Last wave" syndrome that has plauged Hasbro in almost every line at one point or another. Why they haven't changed things up after this same thing happening so many times is beyond anyone.

IIRC the helmetless figures were originally shown as a "wave", that also included the Nick Fury figure. Then Fury was added to the 'TRU' set, and the remaining three figures were changed to the 'Target' box set format.

Either way, I really wish they would've released the first movie Black Widow figure that they showed. The prototype that showed up on ebay, months later, looked horrendous, though.

I've also been trying really hard to not cave in and pay a crazy price for a Mandarin figure. It doesn't help to hear that it really is a cool figure.

I was hoping that there would be news (sometime soon) that the figure was going to be re-released in the new 'Armored Avenger' packaging, since pretty much all of the figures in that 'new' line are just carry-overs from the IM2 line, anyway.

Oh man.. someone just needs to cast that War Machine head and call it a day. It's the only part of that figure I like.
I do like that Mandarin... but it is not any canonical costume so I can skip it and just do a custom one someday.
I got the Whiplash from China a while ago (no whips so I subbed in the one from the Target three pack) and he's actually disappointing.
I don't like the Ultimate universe for the most part so I can live without this figure.

They were revealed around the same time, but never anounced as a wave. Comic book movie showed them first side by side with pics of the actors right as the movie was coming out, but no one had a clue what format they would be in. SDCC that year confirmed the box sets.

Technically repaints, nothing (Thus far) has been confirmed as a carry over, plenty of repaints though.

You mean the unpainted proto we saw a month ago, must have set you back quite a bit if that is the case.

Mandarin would have made great custom fodder for a black dragon for our joes, and isn't a bad figure just as he is, just not one i'd picture with my joes (my primary concern) That poor war machine, his arms are a little short, has that bad articulation in the crotch, small waist and short legs. But besides all that (as in the sculpt) the design at the heart of it has so much potential and both war-machine heads look great imo.

Great reviews as always, thanks for sharing.

Reviving an old thread rather than starting a new one. I found this wave at TRU this morning. Had one each of Mandarin, War Machine, and Ultimate IM. Saw 2 Whiplash. Best part was they are 2 for 11.99 today.

If you still need this wave, check your local TRU, they may be out there. At the very least, this shows that the product is still in the pipeline.

heh, so glad I got those on my own, I would hate to drive all that way to TRU and find only reminats of the wave. Amazing distrobution Hasbro, it's only been a year right?
