...Micronauts? 8-O

http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=278&itemid=15055

I'm really REALLY curious to hear how they pried the rights to Micronauts away from Mego. And while I expect Hasbro's Micronauts line to likely be a reissuing of Takara's recent (2003-2008) Microman line, still...that would be nothing but good, and get nothing but love from me. :-D

Provided they don't repeat the plastic problems they had with the Machine Force wave Takara previously released over here... :shifty:

Hmmm...after thinking this over a bit, I wonder if Hasbro did some kind of end-run around Mego and will instead be doing new figures based on the old Micronauts comic, which they may have acquired rights to handle based on their big license with Marvel. Hmmm...

Glad to hear it. It was a great line and one of my first toys as a kid right before He-Man and GI Joe hit.

NOW HASBRO! Get on that M.A.S.K. reissue line going already!!! :-D

Sweet something of something else. This is good news. Can't wait to see what they have in store.

I'd be really surprised if they didn't use the existing Microman tooling. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if they stuck with the Marvel story lines and came out with a super hero looking characters instead.

They should look at the custom of Bug that JFAK did for inspiration. Sadly, it does not appear to be in the archive. :-(

Very cool news.

Micronauts always seemed like too good of a license not to catch on over here. I can definitely see a well-done modern line appealing to both kids and adults, and who better than THE 3.75" company to handle it? They make the best mass-market 1:18 product and they'll have the resources to both back the line and get it into most retailers.

There are so many characters from the toys and the comics that Hasbro could have a field day. I'd really like to see them do the monsters/aliens justice, 'cuz they've always had awesome designs, but the toys are usually lacking (except for SOTA's unreleased sculpts).

Like a lot of you, I'm wondering what the construction's going to be like. I'm simply assuming the figures will be 3.75"-4", and wouldn't mind Hasbro doing something similar to Takara's super-poseable Microman line, maybe with a better variety of bodytypes for customizing.

Perhaps they'll do something else entirely-- Marvel Universe-style? Modern Joe-style? Star Wars? A cross between all three? What do you guys want to see?

Whatever direction Hasbro goes, I hope the scale, translucent plastic, and customizability of the line remain intact...

They was the first 3 3/4 inch action figures that i had as a kid, then quickly replaced by Star Wars then years later Joes, it's good to hear they are going to do this line, i just hope they do it justice and do them right.

I've wanted a 3 3/4" Baron Karza for, like, 30 years.

Ditto, and it'd be awesome to have him where he could use parts from his steed.

...and now it's making a lot of sense.

Hasbro is enjoying the cash and brand recognition movies are bringing them:

J.J. Abrams, who created the TV show "Lost" and directed this summer's "Star Trek" film, is in discussions to produce a movie about Japanese toy line Micronauts, which Hasbro just acquired.

Interesting quote from Michael Bay, re: Transformers 3:

Quote:
Nonetheless, the director, Michael Bay, also a client of Mr. Fogelman, was reluctant to sign on for a third installment. "I didn't want to do it," says Mr. Bay, "but Paramount, they begged me." He says he caved after a trip to Vegas with Paramount's executives.

G.I. Joe is a superior film to Transformers in every way. It is, hands down, the most action packed movie of the summer. Any kid who hates the movie should be taken out back and beaten with a two by four because I can't imagine any kid not liking this

I concur. They re-released everything else.

Last I remember, Palisades had the rights for Micronaughts. Of course, they probably have them licensedfrom Mego.

Palisades is deader than disco, and its assets sold at auction.

They are no longer a concern. Plus, they made toys that were more fragile than glass.

Yeah, I just couldn't remember if Palisades licensed the property or if the actually purchased the property.

I think they just licensed it. Last I can recall, Abrams/Mego still owned the rights to the name/concept as it was presented here in the US (and possibly Europe). I do recall some no-name company trying to plan 6" McFarlane-esque Micronauts figures after Palisades quit making the re-releases, but they never got beyond a couple of prototypes of Lobros and...Galactic Warrior (I think...could have been one of the other old 3-3/4" characters).

I just don't see Abrams letting Hasbro use the license. Unless he made out like a bandit. *thinks* But then, seems like I read where Mattel is going to do some Worlds Greatest Super Heroes figures next year. Hmmm...

Maybe Hasbro can pick up Eagle Force too! :-D
