Picked up one of TRU's latest exclusive figs a few weeks back... and was suprised to see that, according to his file-name, he's supposed to be the resident machine-gunning beach bum of the origional 13... Rock 'n' Roll...

However... After sitting around for a while, mulling over accessories and giving it some thought... I came to wonder.

To his credit, the boonie-hat and the head... his beard and the expression on his face, kind of resonates a little beach bum-ness. And true, the oversized gattling/missile launcher would be a qualifier for Rock'n'Roll-ness... however he can't hold the damned thing. And without it (something I'm generally doing with all the launchers on mein peoples since... I hate them), he's got a Shotgun, Hatchet, and... Chainsaw. Shotgun I get, but a Hatchet and Chainsaw? What would Craig S. McConnel, a Machine gunner, REALLY need with that? And the build of his body... He's never really been potrayed built like that, and the Tat just... confuses me to no end.

I'm starting to contemplate making myself a new bio for him. Likely a PT instructor in some capacity (still have to figgure out how the Axe and Chainsaw fit in). Anyone else here feel the same way?

He was originally supposed to be Rock 'n' Roll but that name didn't clear international copyright stuff. So they made him a new character but forgot to change the filecard.

I'm going to keep him as a new character (once I get one). But I'll keep one MOC too for my RnR collection.

He is a new character to me. I have started separating my teams and he is part of the Urban team...Rock and Roll is part of my Jungle team

Yeah, he was supposed to be R&R, but I just don't see it. Rock & Roll has had so many cool figures over the years, I'm fine with Bench Press being a new character. Now, just to find one.

I look at it this way. The movie (and its toys) are part of an alternate universe, one we've never seen before in ANY of the toys, animation, or comics, whether you're talking Marvel, Devil's Due, DiC, ARAH, newsculpt, or the 25th-styles up to the point of the movie.

So, in this universe, Craig S. McConnel simply took on a different code-name.

New character in NFCverse. Haven't established anything at all about him yet but he will be something totally new.

I'm using his head for Breaker, and the body for Major Barrage. Haven't decided yet if I'll modify the original Breaker head for Maj Barrage, or if I'll modify the DTC Major Barrage head to use on the Bench Press body.

Alexx on Joebattlelines explains it best in his review:

For me he'll be a new character. I haven't picked him up yet though due to not seeing him. I'd like to see the list do a group project actually where we create some universal ideas for each character that doesn't fit in with the regular line along with filecards. Snake Eyes of course looks the same so he fits. Duke, Breaker, and other do not fit who they're suppose to be (going by the original toy of the characters) so it'd be neat for a universal idea of a rename to be done.

I just figured he was the guy on the team that went out and cut down trees when the Joes needed to set up camp somewhere. His code-name should have been Beaver.... man, that would be cool.
