i never was too much into SS as a kid, but i've been watching old AWA wrestling on ESPN classics, pretty funny stuff, and i've gotten a new found appreciation for him, the guy was actually quite a badass...

but then i found out the other day that SS turned and went 'bad' and joined Sheik alnad Al Kassis and was like pro middle East, anti american.

wth, how the hell did GI Joe sign off on this?

this seems like it was a major PR blunder.

Sgt. Slaughter's cross promotion with Hasbro and GI Joe was over by the time Desert Storm broke out and Vinnie Mac came up with the Slaughter swerve.

WWE/WWF owned or still owns the rights to the Sgt. Slaughter character and they can pretty much do whatever they want. Slaughter was a wrestling character well before he was a GI Joe character. Saying Hasbro wouldn't let them do that to Slaughter is like saying they shouldn't have let William Perry get fat.

Here's a nice way of how he existed in the G.I.Joe world from wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sgt._Slaughter_(G.I._Joe)

That is pretty much how he was handled. I do remember him wrestling in AWA wearing the G.I.Joe logo on his pants. I don't think he ever did in the WWE/WWF. He'd even yell "Yo Joe" when he won.

yeah i'm just surprised Joe didn't have something in his contract, an agreement with WWE.

it's odd they did this for one particular wrestler.

and one football player for that matter.

wish they had done it with more ppl.

a michael jordan Joe for instance would of been cool.

Hasbro didn't have an agreement with WWE because WWE never gave Sgt Slaughter or Hasbro permission to use the Sgt Slaughter character. Sgt Slaughter explained this at the New Orleans convention. Sgt Slaughter was ultimately removed from wrestling over the contention between himself and the wrestling federation over who owned his identity. Once the GI Joe thing had run its course and Sgt Slaughter went looking to get his wrestling job back he was given the "play the heel" role and told take it or leave it. So he took it. He said it was fun at the time but in retrospect it was a bad move cause so many people despised him for it.

I hope some other people from the con with better memories than myself can elaborate.

Chief is into martial arts, he could hang with Snake Eyes and join up with Ninja Force.
