I personally love the BTR line of Joe, and thanks to ZombieGuide, I'm one step closer to the whole set, as I got the Raging Typhoon from him at the Con. And just this morning, I won the HQ w/ Firebat and AVAC for only $40 shipped. (sorry had to brag) Anyway, why did BTR not get any love when it was around? The figures weren't any worse (or better) than the average other new sculpt figs out there, so it couldn't have been that. The vehicles were neat, at least in main mode if not alt mode, so what was it that kept it from being more of a hit? I would've thought combining Lego and Joe would've been a slam dunk.

Well, the figures would have had a lot more appeal without those damned pegs all over their arms and legs, but beyond that, I agree. I actually like many of the BTR versions of the new sculpt figures more than the standard versions, but those lego pegs detract heavily.

I'm still miffed we never got a non-BTR pegged version of that Firefly.

Kids didn't seem to like these for some reason either. I've tried to figure out if it was the whole "no cartoon so no kid interest", but they had Transformer BTR too and they didn't sale. Granted the Transformer BTRs sucked, but still.

I liked them, but I felt they should have had flat pieces that would cover all the open pegs. The vehicles would have looked better if all of that was taken care of so it didn't look like a Lego vehicle with an action figure driving. I used to make Lego vehilces when I was younger for figures to ride in, but I would try and cover the pegs.

The main vehicle I wanted was the BTR HISS. It took me a while but I got it off Ebay. It's a pretty cool design. It's just the same thing, the pegs sticking up hurt the over all look.

The only BTR product I have is Firefly, which at the time, was the best Firefly figure available since the original. I still like that figure even though better FF's are available now.

The line's name just reeked of bad, X-TREEM!!11 90's era thinking, and Joe wasn't that popular in those days. So combining Joe with what could only be perceived as a Lego knockoff probably wasnt a good idea.

I'll give you that. The pegs never really bothered me, but I can see where they'd be an annoyance to some. Too bad they didn't do them like the VvsV communicators, so they could clip on the wrists or legs, but then be taken off to have a non-pegged figure.

For me, the pieces didn't lock well. I also have the raging Typhoon, and while it was cool, if you look at it wrong it will fall apart. To me, that is very annoying.

Huh, haven't had that. My problem with them locking is getting them to first lock. Once they're locked, they're nearly impossible to disassemble. You should send me your RT to troubleshoot it for you.

The problem I saw is that they got NO cross sell. They brought in "Lego" blocks, but didn't try and capture the "Lego Buyer" with a size compatible mini-figure. I'd have been super stoked to get some Hisses and Maulers to roll down and trounce my Lego-ville.

They kept the figures at 3.75" but weren't able to pull in the dedicated Joe fan because of all the Blockishness of the vehicles and the pegs on the figures...not to mention they used the JVC style figures and bios.

Add to that my experience with them was that the blocks didn't hold together very well...so unless the play pattern you're going for is throw it at a wall and watch it explode...the vehicles weren't good for much more than sitting on a shelf..

I think it's exactly what you'll see with the Club's Adventure Team offerings...trying to sell one product to 2 different markets...buy using the "worst" of each.

I think it was good idea that just needed a better push, I agree a mini figure of the character would of been neat and help sell it, along with some army builders.

I liked them alot, the split thigh they had on CC was a great addition that I wish made it to the new sculpt ( and even the 25th Ann) lines. I swaped the thighs w/ a VvV CC when I sold one of my BTR HISS's

I never collected them, and sort of regret it since I did enjoy Lego when I was a kid. The line introduced I think at least one new character (Hollow Point), even though the figures were newsculpts, and the BTR sort of got a plug in the Valor vs. Venom movie. It's unfortunate it didn't fare better, but it should still be regarded as part of the overall collection, certainly.

My nephew is a HUGE fan of BTR. He bought a couple more sets from Joe Armory with his Con budget and has been playing with them non stop. He and his brother love that you can peg guns onto their arms.

Me? I never liked legos much, but I did like the BTR figures. I still need a couple AVACs and a couple Shadow Vipers which are of course impossible to find :(

I think that BTR would have been more successful if it's last and only partially released line had been its first instead. That's when it really started to hit its stride (and started including o-ringed figures instead of those crappy t-crotched ones). To me, the BTR HISS is exactly what the line should have been; lego-like recreations of classic Joe vehicles. Not hastily cobbled together new vehicles.

The first wave was a mix of t-crotch and O-ring. It's just the designs were not a good as they should have been. They were more into making the items look like a Lego-type item instead of the more impressive designs that the next wave had. I don't know why they did that, but that happened with Transformers too. The first Transformers were total crap. You had to take it apart to make the robot and even then it hardly even looked like a robot. The last wave actually didn't look too bad. It still needed work, but it's what should ahve been wave 1.

Ultimately it's that people wanted/want Lego G.I.Joe. They want the small figures with the vehicles. People more than anything want Hasbro to license out to Lego, but because they won't, everyone would like to at least see knock off Hasbro G.I.Joe "building sets".

For what it's worth, I still play with my BTR Forest Fox every now and again. That vehicle's very versatile in making different off-road types.
