1. Why is SNAKE Armor so popular? I'm seeing a lot of excited fans over the new TRU ROC 2-pack with the black SNAKE Armor. Isn't this thing almost as inarticulate as the original Deep Six? Why do people love it so much?

2. What's the fuss about Ray Park's ROC Snake Eyes having a mouth? I just took a look at my 1985 Snake Eyes figure (the holy grail of all Snake Eyes figures) and the sculpt is sporting a mouth...so what's the big deal?

The mouth on that figure looks, to me at least, to be just detail coming through from behind something covering his mouth (think lycra over his face).

Park has uncovered mouth in Hollywood "actors have to have full range of facial expressions" state of mind.

Don't look directly into the sun, it burns!

I think you touched on something about fanboys that we aren't supposed to admit exists.

What beav said about Snake Eyes.

I don't regard the SNAKE armor as a figure; it's a small vehicle like a Trouble Bubble. It can be a robot or a super suit to allow a person to do things they couldn't normally do in environments they couldn't normally survive in. I've always thought they were awesome and wanted some ever since seeing the MASS Device.

1. I personally love the SNAKE because it's old school sci-fi looking. Paint it bronze or silver and I could see some 1950s Martians cruising around in it. But I still LOVE Deep Six V1 so what do I know?

2. It looked dumb in 1985 and in still looks dumb today. The entire Snake-Eyes costume is pretty funky with it's sculpted anatomical features IMHO. I'd have preferred something akin to his V1 mask on the reactive impact armor instead. Nice and low key.

The snake is a childhood thing, I loved it so much, and my step dad broke it putting it together, he then returned it and I never got another so, now that I'm an adult I love it all the more.

I'm not sure why many of us dislike the mouth on snake eyes. The only thing I can think is, everything on an action figure doesn't seem to transfer to a real design. In a 1:1 scale it looks a lil silly, especially since its very fake looking. However, I was more upset about his rubber muscly Schumacher Batman suit.

For me, the Comics had a MAJOR impact on why I love the SNAKE armour so much.

The SNAKE looks cool, it was used impressively in both the toon and comic, and it's a fun vehicle all around. In fact it was a favorite as a kid despite its immobility. Only thing I didn't like about mine as a kid was that, since my older brother was 'too old for toys' but still wanted an excuse to play, whenever I'd get a new Joe vehicle, he had to put it together, even if it was a small one like the SNAKE. When he put mine together, he pitched the tree the parts had come on, meaning I lost the insert to hold it together without a figure in it, so I always had to pick a figure I didn't care for (usually a broken crotch or thumb figure, or Lanard or Remco figure I had multiples of) to hold it together. I didn't want to put one of my 'good' figures in it, because then I couldn't use them in the fight.

Yup, that's me. That's my main reason for really being a fan of the armor. It's not that bad really. But as far as the idea of it and Deep Six, a figure actually could be put in and taken out of the Snake Armor plus the legs were positionable. Deep Six didn't come out of the armor and the legs were stuck in one position.

Snake Eyes with a mouth, it's more like a tight mask on the figure. The movie makes it look like his whole upper body is made of rubber. Every detail is put in the costume as if it's skin and not a costume. Had they took that rubber outfit and laid a lycra suit over it, I think it would have looked great then.

I don't get the appeal of the SNAKE armor either, I just don't see the coolness.

The mough looked stupid on the 1985 SE figure, it looks even stupider in the movie.

I don't care one way or another for Snake Eyes having a mouth or not.

The SNAKE armor on the other hand is cool because it's that old fashioned cartoony sci-fi stuff. Honestly it feels like one of those robots or armors they've made up strictly for the 'toon, but this one's a bit more mainstream.

Then again, what do I know anyway? I think Super Trooper and Robo-Joe are cool.

I saw the movie last night (or was it this morning...)
I'd say that the mouth isn't that bothering.
Most of the time when you see SE on screen he's either a blur of fighting force or he's in the back. Shadows cover him most of the time and you barely see it.

Maybe Ray needs a Mouth to breathe. Imagine jumping around like a ninja with a rubber mask over your head. Would you rather have a mouth or a few pin sized air holes?

Saw the movie this morning. SE's whole upper body looks silly, big and rubbery. (I guess someone thinks that's what SE would look like IRL.) I don't know who approved that design when a much smaller and simpler one would have been less distracting and still bad-###. I always took the mouth on the fig to be the result of fabric pulled over a face. I would much rather have seen a lyrca or ribbed cloth torso/head in the movie.

*shrug*

I just figured the snake armor was exciting for people because it hasn't been released in over 25 years, and some people don't have one, or want to army build them.
I'll get one for sure.
