STAR TREK - Live Long and Prosper

With nearly 40 years of heritage in the STAR TREK franchise, Playmates will build on the excitement generated by the blockbuster STAR TREK movie directed by J.J. Abrams with an offering of new toys and collectibles based on the 2009 movie and the classic original series catalyst STAR TREK. In addition to new waves of 3.75” action figures, role play accessories and iconic vehicles two new segments will be introduced in the movie line that should appeal to both the long time fan and the younger fans alike. The STARFLEET DEFENDER line includes a full array of movie characters articulated in small-scale in dynamic animated-style action poses. Collectible iconic mini space ships from the 2009 movie include the U.S.S. Enterprise, the U.S.S. Kelvin, and the Narada. And for the first time ever, Playmates will introduce 3.75” GALAXY EDITION action figures and diorama’s based on the classic Star Trek series. These figures will be highly detailed with authentic life-like likenesses and feature over 16 points of articulation. Iconic scenes from the most popular episodes will be depicted in two-figure pack dioramas. So jump on the U.S.S. Enterprise and Live Long and Prosper with the STAR TREK products for young and older.

Considering the likenesses of the movie toys, along with the likenesses of the Terminator toys they made, I really have my doubts about the "life like likeness" they claim the figures will sport.

Since they had more development time, these might be better.

Heck, if there's a decent Gorn figure in the works, I'm gorn a get it!

If Sulu actually looks like George Takei, I'll get him.

That guy's awesome.

This line is worthless without dioramas.

Apart from the Original Crew in both normal and dress uniform, what I would really like to see are Klingon 2-packs then and now:

Kor from Errand of Mercy (TOS) and Blood Oath (DS9)
Koloth from Trouble With Tribbles (TOS) and Blood Oath (DS9)
Kang from Day of the Dove (TOS) and Blood Oath (DS9)

I want to see an original bridge as a playset

A boxset from the original pilot "The Cage" with Pike, Spock, Talosian, Vina (Orion) and Number One

Mirror Universe boxset with Kirk, Spock, Mcoy, Sulu and Uhura

"Amok Time" Boxset with Kirk, Spock, T'Pring, T'pau and Vulcan Guard, with ahn-woon and lirpa.

Sarek and Amanda 2-pack

Khan and Marla McGivers 2-pack

Aliens: Mugatu, Gorn, Horta with eggs, M113 Salt Vampire,Andorian, Tellarite, NOMAD Probe

Secondary Characters: Harry Mudd, Cyrano Jones, Romulan Commander (Balance of Terror), Romulan Commander (Enterprise Incident), Romulan troops, Klingon troops,

Apart from a bridge set (preferably with furniture this time   ), the only playsets I can think of are: thre Transporter Room, Vulcan Place of Marriage, Guardian of Forever, Galileo Shuttlecraft.

If they're REALLY smart, they'll just grab Stephen Whitfields book on Trek, and make playsets of the standing sets:

• Engineering
• Bridge
• Transporter Room
• Alien Planet
• Captain's Quarters (with furniture to remake it into 5 other rooms like the real set)
• Galileo

That'd make me so happy I could die. Maybe I'll get some money to add them to my office Star Trek shelf, currently occupied by a phaser, tricorder and Mego Spock and Kirk.

They can flush that movie along with their attempt to destroy 40+ years worth of continuity right down the waste extraction unit where it belongs, and the toys with it.

HOWEVER, if Playmates makes some decent and affordable 3.75" action figures of the REAL Star Trek(s), I just might be interested.

Sort of wonder where that leaves the existing Diamond/Art Asylum stuff, though. Those are impressive figures, if not especially affordable (I keep waiting for the price to drop on the Gowron/Worf set). Maybe they'll continue as "collectibles".

While the prospect of Joe scaled classic Trek appeals, the prospect of it being done by Playmates doesn't. But we'll see.

Definitely look forward to the Klingons and some Borg figures but only one word immediately sprung to mind when I read this.

KHANNNNNNNNNNNN!!! LOL.

Hopefully, we'll see.

I just hope they'll rethink the over all look of the figures. Not just for the fact of them being ugly, but play value as well. Part of the low sales I'd think are due to them not being worth any more than leaving in the package. They don't sit well, they don't hold their weapons. They look odd with short legs and long torsos. They just are a failed attempt at figures that could have been great.

So Playmates borrows a lesson from the video and music insustries (and, I guess, Hasbro), and finds a way to sell us the same thing they sold us before in a different format. :-/

If I knew this new line was going to be as comprehensive as their old 4.5" line, I'd be interested. I don't see it being able to last long enough to do that, though. It'll hit the high points, but that's probably all we'll get.

i would LOVE them to make more trek figures especially the actual classic actors. but im suprised about this considering how much the film figures seem to be stagnant.

This is interesting. This implies that DST and Playmates will be working together somehow. If Art Asylum is doing the sculpts for the upcoming Playmates line, then this may be a cool line which makes up for how lame the movie line was. Still too early to tell though.
