Post subject:  G.I.Joe: Cobra #3 from IDW

I got mine in the mail on saturday and I'm really surprised by the twist ending.



It kinda pissed me off to start with, and then I realzed that thats what they were going for. That kind of thing actually can happen, and now for the first time in a long time, I can't hardly wait for the next issue.

I don't agree with it at all. Didn't we just go through this with Lady Jaye and DD? And now Bazooka in Resolute? GIJoe is about beloved characters, not needless shock deaths. This whole gritty realism, dark and gloomy reality doesn't really do it for me. I prefer a lighter take on GIJoe. Ah well, its not like the new Joe comics are getting that much buzz anyway, but still.

Don't enjoy this Cobra comic that much but the Rise of Cobra prequel comic with Duke was a excellent read. Actually makes Duke seem human instead of all powerful and unfailable. The second one with Destro not all that bad either. But I'm also enjoying the new reg series as well as the Origins one.

I used to get really upset with deaths in general in comic books, but I guess with age comes and understanding, and I don't really think much about it anymore. In this particular case I have three thoughts:

1: A Joe or Cobra death in any media will not diminish my enjoyment of the figures. After all, it's not like the figures will crumble into a pile of dust should their cartoon or comic counterpart go the that big fodder bin in the sky.

2: Comic characters seem to only stay dead until the next writer or publisher comes along (See: Todd, Jason and Barnes, Bucky).

3. If anything, this news has me wanting to get the Trade when it goes on sale on Amazon.

Couldn't agree more. Needless deaths are lazy storytelling.

they "fake" killed Joes in the first issue I think it was, probably the same thing here.

I knew something like this would happen when they first announced the writer. Gage is infamous for nothing else but killing off people at a fairly rapid pace, no matter what book he writes (at least in the discussions I've observed).

I'm okay with it as long as Hasbro has done away with that stupid "If someone dies in the comic, they're dead in the toyline, too" rule. That was just an idiotic policy and made it kind of hard to enjoy the comics.
