The thousand words that this picture is worth are a dissertation on the corruption and greed that lurks in the heart of man, and the apathy that lurks in the break room at my local Toys'R'Us:

Image

And before I leave you to discuss, I'll mention that this particular piece has been out on the shelf for at least two weeks. And I didn't push it to the front of the rack, either: it's been sitting there, prominently displayed, the whole time.

Oh, P.S.: If anybody needs some creeper vines and a Weather Dominator, I can get 'em for you for $24.99 plus shipping!

thats a damn shame , I saw a one of those dc heroes 3 packs at target a few weeks ago with one of the figures missing , I asked if they would sell it to me for a cheaper price the manager said no because there are more on the shelf , and he put that box right back on the shelf

I like to believe that some employees at one point actually gave a crap.

Johnny gets a new job at Walmart. Works in the toy section.
See's this stuff happening, takes items to his boss.
His boss is all "meh" and puts it back on the shelf.
Johnny eventually doesn't care either, based on his boss' actions.
Johnny get's a promotion, hires Timmy.
Timmy see's this stuff happening, takes items to his boss (Johnny).
Johnny is all "meh" and puts it back on the shelf.
Timmy eventually doesn't care either.

See how I made that turn into a nice little circle.

While TRU Johnny might not care, TRU corporate most certainly DOES care. If somebody further up the line knew, they'd be freaking out.

So let them know. There's an 800 number on your reciept along with the store number. Take the phone survey, give them bad scores, and make SURE you mention the pack that's been there for 2 weeks.

TRU management performance is partially based on those surveys. Raises and bonuses are based on performance. Hit them in the pocketbook and they'll jump like a scalded rabbit.

And before anyone starts in with the "What can you expect? TRU employees make minimum wage" argument that always comes up in these kind of threads. THAT'S BULL. Yeah TRU wages suck, I know that firsthand*. But regardless of whether you make $7 an hour or $100 an hour there's no excuse for piss poor service or workmanship. I've worked in retail for a long time and I've seen more apathy than you can shake a stick at, but don't try and justify it by crying poormouth.

Call it what it is: Laziness pure and simple.

* No I don't make minimum wage. TRU's payscale is below industry standards, but even when I started it was well above minuimum wage. 3 or 4 raises later I'm still cheap labor, but I'm a big man in the paycheck pecking order, which is kind of sad really. I keep telling my boss that if I made more money I could reinvest that in more toys, but no dice so far. . .

I've seen something similar at Meijer.
Someone stole Deep Six out of the package. I knew taking it to customer service or showing an employee would be useless. So I put it out in the middle of the floor. An employee was sweeping the next aisle. Yep right back on the shelf.

That's how the manager and myself were at KB. We were on top of things and we were right there if we saw someone trying to steal an item. The store was walked every night (not to mention many times through the day). If by some chance anything slipped through it was pulled and put to the back to be reported and all paperwork done. It worked well for us.

Trouble is there's lots of people out there that really doesn't care. That's when the customer has to make them either start to care or move on. If there's enough complants and the DM comes through chewing them a new one, they'll get it together or go.

Now that's where the issue comes in though at times. The Toys R Us here has sucked for several years now. I have complained and I know others have as well. It stays the same. The manager from KB and myself looked into maybe trying to get in there to work, but we were told repeatedly there were no positions. That's even though a posting had continued to be made about a store manager position. We both figured instead of complaining we'd try to get in there and do something about the crappy customer service and poor skills of the people that worked there. But, on every level it didn't happen, so I guess eventually that store will either get enough complaint that corporate will shut it down or something.

So yeah I've been questioning the future of TRU. I don't want to see them go anywhere but I'm sure there's more TRUs out there like mine and less with employees like viperlord. There were sure plenty of crappy KB employees and look where that got them in the end.

So yeah, I'd say complain. I don't know what it'll do, but I'd complain. They need to start getting their act together along with a lot of these stores that feel they're "safe".

Not our local TRU, they do much worse than this, ok, not worse than this, but worse than most stories you hear.

My store is the one in Paducah, KY, hinkleville road, if you wanna call the 800 number, heck most of them know the store's number without looking it up when I call.

I think stores try to not be too "Big Brothery" in order to make customers feel more welcome, but yes there is no excuse for it, whatever the wages, and even if the wages suck in most cases whoever it is that works like that should remember there are plenty of folks who will take that spot in a heartbeat, if all management wanted was a better job.

Seeing posts like this also makes me miss Hill's. What someone did here was wrong. But when I was a kid, I made out like a bandit on things that were similar.

At Hill's, the store used to have a small section (usually an endcap, but an entire aisle after Christmas) of items that were opened, returned, crushed in the stock room, or otherwise unsellable as new. I got a lot of incomplete toys that way, but after a while they quit having that section for reasons that I was told were liability issues. So when I see this, it is irritating to me on a few levels. Naturally, theft-is-wrong hits right away. Then it also occurs to me that this TRU still has this thing listed as a part of their inventory, making it less likely that they will reorder...making it less likely that the store will get more of the later DVD sets. But I also think about how when I was a kid, I probably could have seen this at Hill's. They would have caught the problem and marked it 50 cents or some other ridiculous price that my mom would have allowed me to get just for the cartoon. It is a shame that the world has changed so much that a kid can't still benefit from what is left here.

I can still recall going home with Sci-Fi, Low-Light, Dr. Mindbender, Viper, and Timber all for $1. I don't know if they were returns, damaged merchandise, or just something someone opened in the store, but when I was 10 I didn't care to wonder. The figures were each marked 25 cents and they tossed them in baggies with whatever accessories they had. So my Sci-Fi came without his gun but with a BAT attachment. And Mindbender included Timber. That was a good day.

Then again, looking at that thing, I have to wonder: Is the DVD even still in there? The MASS Device component?

If I would have had a camera with me I would post the serpentor arrise pack that was on the shelves atmy Walmart from December 29 when I got home from Christmas until February 3rd. I havent been back since so it may still be there. Someone had stolen the MASS piece, the BAT and Serpentor. I pointed it out to two employees and just like the Cat it just came back I thought it was a gonnor but the box came back the very next day.

Why would a store want to leave a pilfered box out like that? It tells everyone 'Steal from us... we won't notice, or even care'.
