Hey I know some here have mentioned before that they use Joes in a RPG style game or even used a battle system of sorts while playing out battles. Can anyone give some details/links/ info on said systems? I have had D20 modern suggested, but I really dislike the D20 system as a whole, but would use it if it were the only alternative. Any help would be appreciated. |

Any help would be appreciated. I use to play with the D20 Modern system and Joes. I even bought some military campaign books with missions to send my joes on. the D20 system works the easiest for this because it already includes modern weapons and doesn't require wrigting any new rules. But if you wanted to do the extra work you could add rules to any play system to make it work. If you end up with D20 Modern, you need to buy the compainon book Weapons Locker, it has a metric ass load of modern firearms with all of their statistic for D20. |

Hey thanks for the insight. I may have to do just that and use the resource books from the D20 system and tweak it to my liking. My big beef with the D20 system is the perks and proficiency system they use. I was hoping there was another system with as much detail on the gear and combat. I'm going to track down the Weapons Locker book you suggested either way |

You might try White Wolf's World of Darkness universe system. |

How about Dream Pod 9's silhouette system. They also have a miniature set of rules. |

Maybe Savage Worlds. or come up with a really simple sytem like this: Joe Action Figure Roll 1D6. Compare Against Cobra Action Figure Roll of 1D6. Highest wins the fight. Snake Eyes gets to roll 3D6. |

White Wolf's World of Darkness --> has potential; I need to look more into it. So far it seems to be based understandably in a more fantasy setting, but it could work, especially if it is compatible with the source books Dream mentioned. Dream Pod 9's silhouette system & Savage Worlds---> Both of these remind me of the old Battletech system, which worked great for vehicle/mech/spaceship battles. I am looking up info on all of these to see which one would work the best, Thanks guys! Keep them coming. Fox--> The roll for the win system is what I'm using now, LOL. The kids are getting old enough to want more detail in the plastic wars and I believe with the right system we could work out a RPG campaign. |

I haven't done it in years, but we used G.U.R.P.S. when I was a teenager. There were enough source materials that we put together our own game to use with our figures. |

This ones strictly for combat: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_i ... 17613&it=1 If I had to do an rpg system I'd use Mongoose Traveller. |

There's also the Cartoon Action Hour, an RPG designed generic enough to engineer for GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man, whatever. That's the byline, anyway. All attempts on my part to buy it have failed for one reason or another. |

The only problem with d20 Modern is the uninspiring unarmed combat rules. They are a total mess, and wouldn't mesh well with a G.I.JOE game at all. I had thought of taking the Star Wars Saga system, stripping it down, and making a JOE version, but I'd probably need help in a pursuit like that. |

do you mean RPG like D&D, white wolf, or a table top war games like 40k, warmachine. i think making up each of the joes as a character would work then you could have a sheet for each of them but that could be time consuming. i posted a while back and got some responces and a website that had soem pretty simple rules but i have not had the chance to use them yet. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4648&p=73367#p73367 it would be nice if i had more folks in my area interested if anything gets going were you are take pics and let us know |

Thanks for all the help guys. Lordneg--> Thanks for the link to the other thread. I was looking for either RPG game or miniature system that anyone uses for Joe battles. I wanted to see what works best and why. I am looking up info on all the suggestions made so it may take a while for me to decide which one we will use for the backyard wars. Scramble--> I never would have thought to use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_Action_Hour , but after looking it up it may be the best for my kids/nieces/nephews. My adult RPG'ers and brothers will want something more in line with the old battletech missions we used to run to get them on board. This however, seems to be the most kid friendly. Also, it seems to be not much more complex than the roll for a hit system we now use. I'm gonna give this one a try. The Mike-->I have tried Gurps and liked it better than D20, but it had flaws in the build system that allowed for unbalances progression. This is just my opinion and I could use it with some reworking to my taste. I'm just trying to see if anyone has worked out a "perfect" system already before I get all the sourcebooks. Luftshutze--> These are new to me, but Mongoose Traveller was highly recomended by some fellow RPGers. I will look into these for sure. |
