Post subject:  Cabela's figures

I'm sure this is old news, but I went to Cabela's (Hamburg PA) for the first time last Saturday. The place was over-hyped in my opinion, but that is a different story. While I was there I spotted some "action sets" with a vehicle towing various outdoor rec. vehicles (ATVs, fishing boats, etc) and with some playset doo-dads and a figure. I had to do a double take at the figure, cause it is a true 3 3/4 ARAH design (exception being the arm rivets were of a slightly different style). I didn't recognize any of the body parts as being actual GI JOE molds. Unfortunately I couldn't spend a great deal of time examining this product at that particular time. Can anybody shed some extra light on these figs? Who actually makes them? etc.

These sets sold from $20-$30.

I am not sure, they probably have some sub-contractor make them for them. I will swing by Cabellas tomorrow and see if I can get more info on them.

I only looked at it for a few moments, I don't know if the back doors open up or not. I was mainly interested in the fig.

The company I found them at in Wal-Mart was Treehouse Outdoorsman. They had different arm construction then with a plastic rivet shoulder, swivel angled elbow and swivel wrists. This past year some of the same sets were at Walgreens pharmacy and Wal-Mart but now with the RAH style arms, but more rubbery hands like modern RAH Joes.

The heads aren't that great sculpting wise but they are compatible in size but have swivel necks. The torso is detailed but looks weird without any modifications and almost all of them have the same 1 or 2 torsos. The waists look like a giant diaper. I don't know why. I've never used those. The legs are pretty good but not nearly as detailed as the most plain GI Joe.

Besides being cheap, where these sets excel are the accessories. Camping and out doors kind of accessories but also some really good civilian vehicles. I have the Chevy Avalanche in red which you cna see here. That one has been customized with a clear windshield, all of these have solid black windows, and the lights on top. Opening doors, opening rear gate, sturdy construction. There's even a pontoon sea plane in the line.

Edit: No, the back doors don't open.

How roomy are the interiors on the trucks? I'd like to use them with my 25th Joes if they work well.

That figure looks like one I've seen in packs at a store called Alco. I bought a couple, they have ball heads (that fit perfectly on 25th bodies), no leg articulation, and swivel shoulders. Since he comes with a truck, it might not be the exact same figure, but looks a lot like him. I've seen smaller versions (think little green army men size) of them in farm sets at Orscheln's (local farm store) and KB.
