From Mike T in the impressive collection thread:

Quote:
A capstone - this doesn't need to be expensive, but every collection should have a piece that makes it stand apart. Maybe it's a shrine to one figure. Maybe it's a piece of artwork. Or, it could be anything else. But, without a capstone, it's just a bunch of guys standing around collecting dust.

I thought this was an interesting point and I thought deserved its own thread.

So what is the capstone of your collections and why?

Edit: I'll post mine after the ball is rolling a bit.

My capstone is so controversial I cannot even post it here. It is a concept piece that a certain customizer on here did for me as a solid for something. Because of the backlash they did not even want me to make their name known. I asked Beav but he said it is not something he wants on this site(I should clarify, as he said, not because he is against it but because he felt there would be those forumers who would not understand it properly) so my hands are tied. I have to wait for a certain item to come out on the mass market to complete the piece and do a dio.

Eventually I plan to get a few other pieces in this nature so it may not be the centerpiece anymore in a few years time but as of now, this is the one piece that best defines "action figures/toys" to me. It is not my fave fig, my first fig etc but it is really cool and unique.

If we are talking about say a production piece, I would say like a Con Dragonsky or a Scopedog. Not terribly expensive but unique and semi-valuable relative to other stuff.

I also still have my first ever Gi JOe Bullhorn which has sentimental value more than anything.

As I stated in the other thread, I think my Capstone(s) are my "non-action figure" GI Joe collection of early 1980s licensed products. This includes Walkie Talkies, linens, board games, halloween costumes, a "snake eyes spy kit" - Anything with the original logo on it from 1982-1986 (and one pair of roller skates from 1987) - if I had to lay on a couch and decipher why I collect those items I think it may be both my love for the artwork and the fact that in my neighborhood we "played" GI Joe - running through the alleys with our pop guns and walkie talkies, our cubscout troop had GI Joe as our Mardi Gras float theme one year - we all dressed up in camo with face paint. We also had GI Joe battles in class where our school boxes would become bases. A 16-back of Crayolas makes a mean missile barrage - and we had doodle books where we designed our own GI Joe vehicles. I still have mine and for the record, I designed the DevilFish before Hasbro did, but mine was blue and black and from some angles resembled a whale. So GI Joe wasn't just the toys for us, in fact the toys came behind the previous things I mentioned and the cartoon and the comic. Role Play GI Joe - Watch GI Joe - Read GI Joe - lastly - Play with Action Figures.

I also collect the box art - and since Life Line is my favorite character I have one of the prints from the original 1994? card art where he's repelling down a rope.

And related but not directly - although my GI Joe collection is in storage - I have a shelf behind me here in my office with a few key toys from my childhood - all replacements bought off eBay but they are the conversation pieces of my toy collection - including: A Tonka winnebago, a Fisher Price plane, the MASK Rhino, Optimus Prime, a completly no-name Go-Bot like hatchback car, and Sgt Rock.

My MOC Street Fighter Movie Edition Ryu Hoshi

I know of maybe four being in collector's hands.

I remember someone saying they contacted Hasbro back in 1994/95 about it existence and Hasbro denied the figure was ever produced.

I think someone here said the Ryu's never sold or were maybe never released in the U.S. for some reason and they were sent to the Philippines instead and sold cheap

The one I have has a warped cardback. The figure itself is really odd-looking and wouldn't be in any way desirable, unless it was as rare as it is. The fact that I was online at the right time and lucked into a Buy It Now auction for a lot of 10 carded SFME figures which included Ryu and bought it for much less than I have been offered to sell it for is pretty cool

I don't think I've ever heard of a controversial custom before. Is it something religiously/politically offensive? One of those 'nude' customs? You can't just throw that out there and not give SOME details.

As far as mine, I'd say it's my customs. I only put my favorites out on display by themselves, the others are either mixed in with factory stuff or in a bin somewhere.

But if we're talking factory stuff only, I'd have to go with my Night Ray. It's 100% complete (including the original lens) and I built it from a stripped shell.

I'd be remiss if I didn't say that within my action figure collection I have a special row of figures that were gifts and have special meaning including a few customs from guys on here - such as Kamakura's Argentine Seven figures he sent me as Secret Santa gift a few years back. I salivate everytime I see that RedMack.

I have been dying to make one for years now (a controversial custom that is) but with no luck :-(
I don't want to start a discussion on it as it is anti-climactic and also sort of disrespectful to Beav (though even writing about it does that :-/ ) What I'll do is I'll PM or Email you with the details and dio stuff once everything I need to complete it is in place.

well,.. I have several "rare" collectibles:

1) A Black Hole Mego V.I.N.C.I.E.N.T.

2) A Buck Rogers Starfighter and Twikki Figure

3) 2 Robotech Veritechs (Piloted by Pilot Scarlet and Miriya)

4) Fisher Price Adventure Team Vans converted to S.W.A.T. surveilence vans

....but mY "Capstone" has to be a Snake Eyes V2 figure with a REAL metal sword. Not that That is impressive.....

but its the ONLY thing that survived my Original childhood collection being thrown away by my Ex-Fiance when we broke up... so it is special to me.... The only survivor of a diffrent era.

Lame as mine are...for rareness sake, it's the Spy Troops/JvsC packaging variants of grey snake eyes vs. cc, blonde goatee gung ho, and HALO jumper vs. whatever the pit viper is called 2packs. Of course, MOC. of these, mainly the halo jumper sticks out b/c the filecard on the back makes him & pit vipers sound totally different.

my capstone is definatly my collection of preporduction and international items. The biggest of wich is a complete set of the 1992 trading cards, uncut on two big ass sheets of poster board. I also own a few original pages from the devils due special mission series, as well as sketches of Glenda and De Aco by Tim Seeley.

I have several

-A custom Cobra De Aco that is in a custom package some buddies of mine gave me about 5 years ago. Its an impressive custom that I bet could pass for the real thing if not inspected closely.

-My R2-D2, the very first 1:18th figure I ever got which was around Easter 1978 (I think) he looks like crap having been dropped several times in water, coke, mud and just about anything a little boy can drop an actionfigure into, I have another that is in nicer shape but not nearly as meaningfull as that one.

-Breaker V1, My very first joe, one of the few who didn't suffer broken thumbs in my collection, and also one of the few GI Joe figures I think they got absolutly right the first time and still have yet to improve on.

-My Vintage Darth Vader, actually my second Vader (I got him around 1981 after ESB) but I managed to keep in in great shape, no noticable wear, the vinal cape is intact ect. Really a great shape figure.

The Melenium Falcon-My birthday 1979 (Might have been late as 1980 to be honest, but I know I wasn't 10 yet) my grandfather calls and tells me he will be there and asks me what I want. I blurt out the Melnium Falcon like any umb 8 year old would, My mom has a fit, tells me its too expensive, tells my grandfather its too pricey and not to buy it. I give him some other choices. On my birthday I have a huge box and I open it, guess what was inside, Never ever getting rid of it.

-Not really a toy but still prominant around my collection is the SW poster from the special edition in 1997 that I talked the theature owner in my town into giving me (I was actually going to buy it). Its the actual poster that hung outside the theature in the glass case, My heart was a bit broken when it accedentally got torn while being removed, but its a small tear you can't even see in the frame. Took me nearly ten years to find a frame big enough for it. Now its never more than a few feet from my collection.

I guess mine would be my Outback collection of figures. I did a custom for just about every enviornment with (the exception of underwater) and almost everystyle of Joe figure (never did a Sigma Six one).
Now I'm going to work on getting Night Force and v1 on Card... and some day a European Tiger Force one on card.

That would be my CAPstone :shifty: , but for figures themselves, it would be my Leon. A custom that spawn two deep friendships.
