i just watched my "best of 80's" dvd , the part in the ghost one , where she walks into the Joe base link Norm walked into Cheers had me thinking , that maybe she worked for the Joe's . , Alot of times in the cartoon she calls different Joes by there name and they all know her, i cant think of a time in the comic like this ,but in 2000, Hasbro made her "twin" sister (i know they said it was copyrights) |

She's neither, IMO. She is just Cobra's intelligence czar, and thus knows as much about the opposition as it's possible to know about such a top secret unit. Chameleon was just... a dumb idea used as an excuse to release a cool repainted Baroness. |

Baroness is a ruthless opportunist. She'd sell out Destro or Cobra Commander in a minute if she could so how walk away from the whole thing and come out ahead in the deal. |

While I disagree that she would sell out Destro, I do agree with the rest of your statement. Her ruthlessness is evidenced by her constantly questioning acts of honor and respect by Cobras towards the Joes. |

In my current (Vanguard) Joeverse, Baroness was always a US spy--placed into the Cobra organization early on. She went in so deep and got so much into the role that over time she effectively lost track of her real identity, until shortly before the Cobra Civil War. At that point she was able to convince Destro to turn against Serpentor and Cobra Commander. After the war (which ended with Cobra being utterly wiped out) she and Destro retreated to a quiet life in Scotland. The Baroness is now retired but maintains her connections, and only a handful of people (including Gen. Hawk and Joe Colton) know her real identity or her whole history. Can't help it...I've always had a soft spot for her, couldn't make her a bad girl. |

gotta remember, not everyone watching the 'toon knew every character by heart, and it was for kids. saying their names helped kids to keep up with the show better. and now you know... |

But most Cobras referred to them as "Joe". I can't remember Cobra Commander addressing anyone other than Duke and Flint by codename, maybe Scarlett too. Baroness did know more Joe names. |

I doubt Cobra Commander cared enough to learn half the names of his own troops. |
