Apparently Mattel is able to keep MOTU going by producing one exclusive figure per month. There must be sort of licensing arrangement they could do with Lucasfilm to keep up a similar release strategy. It would clean a little egg off both companies' faces right about now.
MoTU is owned by Mattel, they can do what they want with it. With Indy, it's licensed, and to even produce the product Hasbro probably has to put up a million plus minimum guarantee, regardless of what's actually released or what's actually sold. I don't see them selling enough online to even make back that guarantee, let alone any profit.
I'm not sure about that, they had a limited contract, Usually in those instances its a add on royalty fee.
The end result is this Line failed, I assume based on the fact they though Indy was a kids line, when Indy mainly attracts older people, I think the movie was a fail with most kids. I'd be willing to bet the movie hit at the 15-40 age range due to the fact kids are not really into old action adventures anymore.
Also don't forget Lucas has his hands directly on the licensing. He could have been a factor in so many Indy and Mutt figures since it was his idea to have Mutt in the movie anyway.
Note to Hasbro: You failed on this line, a few indys is enough, mainly a Indy from each movie. You gave us eight Indys, several Mutts and a ton of figures that no one really wanted. KOTCS was a good movie, however you based a entire line on the hopes of it being stellar, which it was not. Next time around tone down the new movie stuff and integrate older stuff. Hopefully this experience will help you keep the line going next time around. ( If there is one ). I hope the TOD and LC figures come out in good numbers, I'm still a fan of the line.
