Anyone know the story here? This is from BotCon '07. I assume the Joe is pictured for scale and that this is one of the mockup military Alternators: http://www.allspark.com/index.php?set_a ... _photo.php |

Like the tag says, its a kit-bashed prototype. Looks to be made from a Thunderwing and maybe the Joe there (Ace) would come with him? Possibly even fit in the cockpit? Definitely curious about this as well. If they decided to do something like this with Joe Transformers I'd be all over it. Especially if they fit the figures. |

That was on display in Hasbro's main office in Pawtucket, and yeah, it's just a kit bashed prototype to kind of see how a Joe/TF toy might be designed or produced. Nothing official, just something for the heck of it, I believe. More of a curiosity thing. Justin |

Any idea why they don't do a cross over? I imagine it would do well..... |

They have done this for Joe Con the last couple of years too. They put pre-production models/mock ups that the designers have created to kind of show that they do consider this kind of stuff even if we never see it on the shelves. Realistically speaking, it looks cool and I could see myself getting one or two of this line, but after that, cost would be a major concern. This a medium sized vehicle that by itself would sell for $15-20. The transformer on the other hand is a big transformer more in the $40-60 dollar range. How many $60 transforming GI Joe vehicles can you guys justify? I could see transfomrers fans getting them. I could see cross-brand guys getting them. I coudl see some of the Joe fans getting them. But I think moving the line in a Star Wars vehicle price direction would hurt the line right now without the support of a bigger fan base. |

All I gotta say is they needed a Autobot decal on him instead to be purchased with Ace and I'd be |

I was on that tour and asked about that one specifically. I asked if it was going to be a Joe/Transformers cross-over line and was told "I don't think so." They went on to say that they were considering an entire military-realistic line of Transformers similar to alternators and that Ace was "Probably" in there as an example of a figure. These were all costing models. You can see the other 2 that were on display with it here:

HEY hasbro! You dont need to make it a Joe Cross over. But you would sell a crap load if you had space somewhere in those to fit a Joe figure. Just saying. |

See, again, the saddest part is, if we WERE to get a crossover line, it wouldn't be what most people (myself included) want; either transforming joe-scale vehicles, or transformers characters who turn into joe vehicles. No, they'd do it like they're doing the crappy Star Wars and Marvel crossover lines. So, instead of something awesome like Megatron turning into a HISS tank or Starscream into a Night Raven, we'd get a HISS tank that turns into some weird, ill-conceived Cobra Commander-esque robot, or a VAMP that turns into an ugly Duke robot. |

I just want a figure of SerpentOR, Cobra Commander armed with a Megatron gun, and some cyborg Dreadnoks riding on Junticons. |

I may be in the minority, but I would actually prefer a line that is more similar to what they did with Star Wars Transformers (minus the dumb robot modes). Yeah, I could take a few Transformers scaled to 3 3/4" Joes, but they would either get rediculously expensive or rediculously tiny (for the character they portray) quickly. We could cost-effectively get Bumblebee, Wheelie, Ravage, Minicons (we did get that with the Energon Kicker pack), or any smaller guys. And I am sure Prime could sell to some degree at a huge price point. But the line like that would be extremely limited. And from the Joe perspective, I can't see how having a 3 3/4" cross-over line would be of much benefit. We would either start having to shell out extra $ to get a new Joe packed with a Transformer or the line would be inundated with Joe repaints. But if they did it somewhat like they did Star Wars, we could get a large variety of Joe vehicles in a smaller format along with 1" versions of Joe characters. A Terrordrome isn't nearly as much of a risk for Hasbro if it is scaled down. I'm picturing myself walking out of the store one day with a Transformers deluxe-sized Brawl that turns into a HISS tank and comes with a 1" HISS driver and a 1" Cobra Commander. Or an Ultra Class Starscream that turns into a Night Raven with Strato-Viper and Serpentor. Or a Deluxe-sized Hound who turns into a Vamp with Clutch and Spike. The possibilities are almost endless. |

I would totally spend the money for the full size joe/tf crossover vehicles, but I understand that it would be a rather niche item, so I dont hold my breath waiting. On the other hand, I would totally steal that tank if I was close enough

It is rather odd that Transformers can cross over with everything under the sun except for GI Joe. Star Wars, Marvel comics, now even Mickey Mouse, but somehow GI Joe isn't good enough when it comes to the Transformers line even though we've had way more GI Joe vs Transformers comic books than we've ever had Star Wars vs Transformers comic books. On the bright side yea I could see instead the cool VAMP that transforms into Hound we'd get something silly like a VAMP that transforms into Big Brawler. What's sad is that many many years ago they had a Transformer that turned a Snow Cat and the world didn't end because a Transformer took on a GI Joe themed alt mode. A recent Q&A with Hasbro even said that the human figures planned to go with the movie release would not be 4" so that means we can't even add the soldiers from the movie to the Joe collection. |
