The '97 Cobras are a surprisingly strong lineup for how they were reviled back when they were released. (Can't believe it's been over 10 years since then!) There's not really a dud in there, though many of the figures were eclipsed by later releases. But, the winner has to be the Alley Viper. For my money, this is the best Alley Viper ever released in terms of mold and colors. Back in '97 and '98, people hated this figure and were actively trying to get rid of them when they bought multiple Rages. But now, it's the hardest AV to find but still my overall favorite rendition of the character.

I'll add that the blue Alley Viper made him a plausible addition to my Cobra Troops that the Orange and yellow versions could never be, and the later versions of Alley Viper (Blue & Red) were also improvements - they couldn't beat the rattler blue and extra details of the 1997 version.

I went with the Viper. I liked the color scheme. Alley-Viper wasn't too bad. Baroness was okay. Cobra Commander and Destro -- don't get me started...

I also like teh Alley Viper because of the ethnic skin acceleration, he is definitely Carmel colored

plus that rage was super cool too!

Viper is the best for me,closely followed by The Baroness.

The Viper paint scheme is nicely done,a little less 'bright' then traditional Vipers. I use my 3 as squad leaders.

Cobra Commander was my favorite of the '97. The armor looked sharp in blue, which fit in better with the regular Cobra soldiers/officers.

I'm gonna go with the Alley Viper here. Not as cool as previous versions, the paint scheme doesn't look all that well thought out. I had the good fortune to pick mine up in a consignment shop in a bag of general loose toys a couple of years back, so he's the only one i have from '97 and frankly the only one i'd bother to look for.


Now i just got to get him some accessories.

Like the Joes, I can't vote for any. Again, had we received the card art versions and the Alley Viper shown on the back of the Rage box, it would have been great.

I just really love that Baroness. That's a Baroness that just really seems very loyal to Cobra.

Ironically, I usually use her as Chameleon.
