G.I. Joe #0 Preview

Looks like that's the whole story for one part of the issue. Not sure how I like it yet but they included Torpedo (one of my top 5 fave Joes) in the story so I call it a win.

Ooooh. :) I like the tone (both writing and color.) I can see the art style might chafe on some; It's realistic, yet with a hint of MacFarlanesque proportions. Duke taking out the sentry has the largest indicator of this IMO. I like it, though. And war journals! (After-Action Reports) Woot!

What twinged for me is the lineup -- that's a lot of stripes for one op, even one as swiftly-slapped together as the narration suggests. However, I tell myself that I'm looking at it out of context. After all, I don't know how big the team is at that point in the story.

Forget the stripes, how about the Navy guy mixed in the army guys. That doesn't scream thrown together either. But I'm with you on the we don't know how this GI Joe has been set up or who is on the roster and how.

The other we don't know is if GI Joe was still created to combat Cobra. These Joes don't know what Cobra is, but that doens't mena whoever put them together doesn't.

Im not sure about other branches but Army SOF tend to have more enlisted than officers. SFODAs have 10 NCOs 1 WO and 1 CO, and Im pretty sure 1SFODD which Gi Joe is supposed to be based off of has a higher population of enlisted than officer. Which is why it would make sense to have more NCOs than officers.

Which I assume you saying stripes you mean enlisted.

Now that is looking very interesting. Liked the story AND the art. First time I have been able to say that about a GI Joe comic for a long time.

This could get me buying the comic again.

While a good point, I meant more in the number of stripes, not that there was no officer. We had Duke and Beach, both E-7+, and Flint as a WO2, and Torpedo, again a WO from the Navy. Basically, each one of these could be leading a four-man team of highly-trained E-5's rather than having four leaders in the same group.

Looking good!
I love the whole covert op aspect of this preview.

Characters were a bit hard to identify though.

Beach Head doesn't wear his balaclava on the ship but he's wearing it on the zodiac or was this another guy....

Looking forward for this new book.

Ok I understand now, I thought he meant it as in quantity of enlisted rather than their ranks.

OK 25 years and NOW you mention it.

Too late. ;-)

I like the marketing here, should generate alot of interest. So far I am digging what I am seeing but will reserve final judgement when I have the stuff in my hands.

NOOOOOO!!! Are you insane?! Holding your opinion until you actually see the finished product for yourself?! That's crazy talk man! This is the internet, where we spout our uninformed opinions across message boards for all to see. Come on, rant, rave, curse Michael Bay! Something!

ahem... sorry about that. Anyway...

What worries me about this preview is its the first of 3 parts. Issue #0 is supposed to be a sampler of all 3 books coming out next year and this story shown here looks to be the full story for the Dixon book section. So are they goiong to show the other two preview stories? What would be the point of buying the book then if they show it all off on the internet before it comes out?

That's all I got cuz after reading it again the story so far has me hooked. Hell its G.I. Joe, I'll buy it just for the logo.

This has me excited. It took me long to figure out who was who, especially Duke. I'm worried that, with a tone too serious for role call and an emphasis on military realism over the toy designs, keeping track of the characters might stay tough.
