Fang

go ahead prove me wrong, i mean it COULD work in real life. It carries 4 missles and a Bomb.
Ball turret laser gun, Can Carry three people, small range, low clearence lander.

I mean the only thing its got wrong is what happens if you try to move up or do the ol "look ma no hands!"
It will be a literal statement.Other then that its perfect, practical, cheap and with better non- cannon Fodder pilots
probably very efficiant. Over all I think this might possibly the best small vehicle ever made by ANY toy manufactorer. period.

discuss....

I disagree for a few reason, but i'll have to think about a better small vehicle.

The Fang is great. No doubt. I do have an odd favourite in the Road Toad, but that is maybe too big to join this discussion. Road Toad can also carry 3-4 figs, has a cool cannon with missiles. Has a tow cable, and can be attached to another vehicle.

Agreed. And this is most hilarious part:

I'm a fan of the Swampsmasher, myself. An odd name, and garish colors to be sure, but I loved watching those wheel assemblies roll over things, when I was a kid. And, the design was pretty cool, overall. I won't claim that my love for the thing is rational, but I do stand by it.

I didn't post in the Rattler v. Hurricane thread, because I think that the subjective values applied to the vehicles tend to outweigh the practical ones in these threads, but I did want to ask what your criteria for "best" is here. Feasability? Cool? encumbrance? Armament?

As far as feasability, it's not as realistic as you think, and the main argument against it is if it were possible, it would have been done. Helicopters are the size they are for a reason. I'm no engineer, so I don't know what the ideal length of tail boom is, to counteract the force of the main wings' rotation is, but the fang isn't it. Also, chopped off extremities aside, there's no way that you could sit directly in the prop wash of the thing with no canopy and still be able to pilot it, especially if the tiny thing was pumping enough down force to carry armament or passengers.

Cool? I think both the Sky Hawk and the trubble bubble are cooler. I actually think the ram is cooler, too, yet the first two are a little scifi (where are the lifting surfaces on a sky hawk? you ever tape a bottle rocket to a toy car?), and the Ram completely ignores the fact that firearms have recoil, and the bigger they are the more recoil they have, (I would LOVE to see one of these fired in real life. It would make an excellent insert on "Destroyed in Seconds,"), so they're not very feasible.

In any event, my personal favorite small vehicle has always been the Armadillo, but I freely admit that I have a bias for tanks, and I'm fully ware that the Armadillo has some pretty glaring deficiencies. For Instance, are those laser guns, or cannon? If they're cannon, where is the ammo stored? If the lower half of your body is in the hull, and the upper half is in the turret, what do you do if the enemy is at your 6? How do you see out of that thing?

Edit: I also wanted to ask but forgot to (because I got stuck in dick mode,) what is the upper limit for "small?" I mean the above ref'd vehicles, obviously, but what's too big, here? Relative to the other planes, the Firebat is Tiny

I feel your pain. I'm still waiting for the "soon to be available" Moller Aircar I read about in 1986.

Probably the Trubble Bubble for me. It just looks so cool, plus it could be done in the future. Or maybe the JUMP because it is so simple.

Seriously, I love the AWE Striker, always did. Someday I wish Hasbro would make a Cobra colored one for kicks. I also like the Badger and the Paralyzer, the obnoxious colors annoyed me on both, but the Street Fighter repaints were semi-improvements. Of course I really dig the Trouble Bubble. And as a kid I loved the RAM and it's still, however impractical.

My favorite small vehicle is definitely the Cobra Jet Pack. It's two huge engines with a handle bar- how can you go wrong!?

You had to get technical. I meant in playbility and believability as a KID. before you knew mass, wieght, rotaional effects, air, currents and Jetwash that killed Goose. The Skyhawk was a favorite as a kid, but know its probably the least actual able vehicle made. Even the jetpacks make more sense.

you did do a good job of shooting it down, its def not the best, but i still think its in the top five.

I gotta go witht he Trouble bubble as the best Small Cobra vehicle, with the upcomming Skyhawk the best Joe.

the trouble bubble just has more playability than the Fang, even if its just to reinact the cool scene of Snake eyes flipping out the Viper from the Movie opening!

Well I hate that now I'll have to take the time to do the research to justify my claim, but ThMick, I believe you are wrong, I've seen small one-seater gyros very similar in shape to the Fang. I do not recall if it was at the Boeing Air Museum in Seattle or the air museum north of the Bradley Airport in Hartford, CT. I go to every air museum I can get into and I travel all over the nation frequently. I am sure something like the FANG has existed. Now whether or not it could carry an ordinance of four missiles and a bomb is a different story.

By the way, the Boeing Air Museum located at their manufacturing facility also contains the real life JUMP Jet Pack (looks more like the toxo-viper backpack); the original CIA drone for the SR-71 (as seen on the back of the night raven); and the real hovering platform that you see infantry troops gliding across on in the beginning of the original Johnny Quest series.
