I fully beleive that the Hurricane is a supperior Cobra Aircraft than the Rattler. I would have proven so at teh JC.coN North meet if Savage Dragon hadn't interfeared.

I welcome all challenges to prove that the Rattler or any other Cobra Air-craft are supperior to the Hurricane.

What is your argument for the Hurricane over the Rattler? Just stating your opinion doesn't put you in a strong opening position.

Even though, I totally agree.

Night Reven is supeior to all other Cobra Aircraft. It holds 3 figures, has a detatchable drone, working cockpit lift and hinged engin covers.

Does the Huricane have any of these things or the snazy black paint job? I think not.

I only like the Hurricane over the Rattler due to scarcity and that fact it has not been rereleased since it came out, so that should almost be an argument AGAINST the Hurricane...

The Rattler holds far more ordanace, which just about ensures it's practicality, aside from the fact that it adds a more practical feature (VTOL) to an already proven military conceptual platform in the A-10 style frame, while the Hurricane is, at best, a poor man's Dirge. How about some arguments on YOUR side, Brian?

I'll do one better and give you pros and cons for both.

Hurricane
Pros
Slick looking fighter jet. Just one looks at this intimidating jet and you have no doubts about its capability of putting up a hell of a fight for a multitude of air combat rolls. You also have no doubt that it can fly at super sonic speeds. Its armed drone can be utitlized for recon, decoy, or suicide attack bomb. It gives you all these options in a VTOL format, menaing it doesn't require a landing strip. Any field, any ship deck, or any parking lot is an acceptable landing area for thsi aircraft.

Cons
From a combat perspective it isn't really designed with bombs in mind so taking out tanks is very realistic unless they had something laser guided. While talking about missiles I will add coloring as a Con. While the jets blue and grey aren't bad I wouldn't chalk it up as apro either. What really makes the colroing a con is the bright yellow missles. No way doe sthe colro beat the original VTOL Rattler.

From toy perspective these things are not as plentiful as the Rattler and other Jets made between 84-87 in the second hand market. The hurricane also has a huge problem with the tabs that keep the wings in a flying position. Combine all of these and you have a vehcile that is way more buck for your bang.

Rattler
Pros
The A-10 that this jet is based on is a just a superb fighter. It is heavily armed with a huge arensal of missiles, bombs and a front mounted vulcan gatling gun. There is no telling how many tanks and ground force crews have been chewed up by this Tank Buster. The Rattler being a modifed A-10 added VTOL capabilites which helped many a Cobra escape to fight another day. Pus Wild Weasal's Rattler aircraft was capable of dog fighting with Ace ina F-14 Skystriker to an even draw. When the best of the best go head to head with no clear winner you have put the two jets at even too.

From a toy perspective tons of missiles, a gunner position, replaceable damaged pannels, removable engine covers, and retractable landing gear make this jet full of win. Lets not forget the Rattler got tons of media coverage in the cartoon, advertisements, and in the comic. Also Cobra blue with realistic looking weapons gives the Rattler the edge in color choice over the Hurricane. Plus being released several times and for longer periods then the Hurricane you can get a Rattler very easy right now. Especially since Target has the 25th version on the shelf as I type this.

Cons
Realistically there is no way anything shaped like an A-10 and carrying that much ordinance could match a fighter jet in air to air combat. Physics just won't allow it.

Toy wise the broken landing gears on so many kind of take the fun out of the retractability. Collectors today are afraid or messing with the landing gears because they might break. I've seen a lot of trashed Rattlers out there stripped for parts as the 20 something year old vehicles breaks down over time. Broken canopies and missing missiles are very common.

Child flight capabilities: Hurricane has the best hand placement location of all Cobra Planes. Located on the bottom of the Hurricane for a most realistic flight around the house. The ribbed design provides a secure hold for both child or adult hands. The center of gravity is balanced at the same point allowing for one handed dog fights.

Durability: I may not have had the massive numbers of Cobra Vehicles pass through my hands that Kevin (KrymsynGard666) has had....but I'm uber-cheap in my buying so I always get the Dregs of collections. That said, I've got 4 Hurricanes of various states of completion, in those 4 I only have 2 broken peices, one of the wing tips, and one tab on the tail loop, Though I broke that during dissassembly for cleaning.) 2 of the shells have some sun discoloring of the blue plastic.

I've had at least 4 of most any other Cobra Air-craft and They all have had a higher percentage of broken parts.

Landing Gears: The landing Gears for the Hurricane are insightfully designed and incorporated into the functioning shell of the plane...I've yet to see a Hurricane without it's Landing Gears.

Simplicity: You don't need to track down a ton of parts to have a functional looking Plane. Odds are your Shell will have the wings still attached keeping the engines and landing gears part of it. You'll need the Canopy, and then you Need the Tail fin "hoop". After that it's just missiles and the Drone. If you've seen Kevin's black Squadron Hurricanes it proves you don't even need the Hurricane's own missiles...any missiles that fit will due.

The Hurricane was featured in DIC cartoons - which is a huge strike against it.

I've never held a hurricane that could keep it's wings forward. It was impossible to play with it as a plane.

Mind you I've only gotten my first rattler without broken landing gear - and that's cause it's still in the box.

I chose the Rattler as the main target of this post because Comparing the Hurricane to the Rattler is as close of an Apples to Apples comparison as you can get.

Both Were depectied as the Main Cobra combat aircraft in their respective Animated media.
Both can seat 2 Cobras.
Both have a Forward set cannon
Both have a secondary dorsal firing position
Both have 10 Mounting points for munitions.
Both are Blue

Hurricane Holds 2 figures in the Cockpit Equal to the Raven. Hurricane has a Detachable drone with a Spring Loaded Missile launcher, A canopy that isn't prone to breaking or falling appart when used, and has a removable engine panel.

The Hurricane would have been a much more "little dream" friendly plane... You're spindley little kid arms could have flown the Hurricane around and shot down Joes by the dozen....instead you had the Raven...prolly had to strap it on your back like a book-bag and run around bent over at the waist just to pretend it was flying.

There's your problem right there. Who cares about the animated media? :P

Besides, being in the DiC cartoon should actually be a strike AGAINST the Hurricane.

But it IS the best Cobra fighter plane for sure. Rattler is the best tank smasher though. Night Raven is the best spy plane.

Everybody wins!

Yellow missiles vs black and grey missiles. Sorry, Rattler wins. :)

However, I do think the Hurricane was an inspired design and, as a toy alone, is definitely superior to the brittle Rattler. (As a kid, our Rattler was broken in just a few weeks and once the canopies were damaged, the plane lost most of its usefullness.) If Hasbro was going to make one remake of a Cobra aircraft, I'd take the Hurricane hands down over anything else.

I totally agree with Nova on this one, although I love the Rattler on its own merits, and I don't think I can "prove" anything more than my preference for it.

The Hurricane
-- looks like it would be much more effective in air-to-air combat
-- has no problems with the landing gear
-- looks intimidating in VTOL mode

Obviously the yellow missiles and parts are a downer, but paint can solve that issue very easily.

Sweet Jebus, that's the funniest image I've had in my head all day.

Now picture that with Dream having Con Maulers on his feet for skates. :shifty:
