1992, same as the year before: still some solid figures apart from the springloaded weapons and some colours. Figures from Ninja Force are not in. Let everyone know what figure you like best (and please explain why)! http://www.yojoe.com/action/92/ Tim 121RVC |

This was surpisingly harder to pick than I thought. There's some great figs here. I ended up picking Shockwave because of the helmet and gun. It's just a solid figure and a look that was missing in the Joe line. But, cases could be made for General Flagg, Spirit, Ace, Cutter and a few others. (Really, the DEF Joes were a strong subset overall.) |

This is the year I quit collecting Joes. I bought none of the new Joes or Cobras after 1991 (beginning again in 2005!) |

Went with Mutt and his net launcher. Spirit and Wild Bill are both great upgrades |

This one was easy for me -- BIG BEAR! The second Oktober Guard character, and with that hat, he looked even more Russian than Red Star (I actually have a genuine Red Army hat that looks just like it, right down to the color and an official insignia). A close second would be ROADBLOCK. I never liked the 1986 Roadblock that well. It always looked like a sloppy sculpt to me. And the 1984 Roadblock, whole cool, just wasn't muscular enough to represent how Roadblock was portrayed in the comic and TV show. I'm sure many of us may remember that this Roadblock was pulled off the market because of that launching disc contraption it came with. The reports were that it "broke too easily". Riiiiiight. Let me tell you what happened the first time I tried that thing out. I fired it off at a slight angle in the admittedly slightly limited space of the living room of my first apartment. It took off like a shot, bounced off a wall, caromed off the couch, ricocheted off the TV screen, took another bounce off the aircraft carrier, and finally came to rest under a table on one side of the couch. By this time I was under a table on the OTHER side of the couch. SHEESH! I'm glad I didn't fire it straight up. I'm convinced it would've drilled a hole through the ceiling, kept going, and burned up on re-entry. BTW, my award for WORST Joe of 1992 goes to Duke. What was up with that headsculpt? Had a nose on it that arrived five minutes before the rest of the figure. I trimmed it down with sandpaper... |

The problem with some of the latter waves was that some just didn't hold up to the most iconic and recognizable versions of the character. Duke-nice uniform perfect for numerous generic troopers, head sculpt has plenty of uses after modding. Wet-Suit-Used for a new SEAL character, v1 is the only one. Roadblock-has the bulk for Roadblock, just not the most recognizable. mold good for other customs. Big Bear-voted for Big Bear. mold is perfect for amy-building Oktober Guard troops. General Flagg-nice addition to the GIJOE High Command, head sculpt has other uses, torso okay for winter ops troops, the legs I use for Oktober Guard troops. Gung-Ho-I absolutely detest this version (and re-releases). I use the head/arms for Dreadnoks and the waist/legs for generic troops. The torso I stash away to hide. Barricade-necessary figure, but not a fav. Wild Bill-I use the head w/a Bullet-Proof body for a Oktober Guard Spetznaz trooper or for a Dreadnok. The body just has no use. Bullet-Proof-OK figure, I just never understood why a quick response team needed to be tied down by over-sized, heavy equipment. Shockwave-Used for a new character, v1 is the only one. Mutt & Junkyard-Used for a new character w/different head, v1 is the only one. Cutter-Used for new characters w/different heads, v1 is the only one. Barbecue-Used for a new character, v1 is the only one. Deep Six-Used for a new character, v1 is the only one. Spirit-acceptable as another uniform for him, but prefer version 1. Ace-Used for a new character that pilots the X-16., v1 is the only one. |

While I really liked the Shocky and Dukie bodies, I hadda go with Barricade just because guys in armor kick more ass than guys that ain't. |

I went with Gung-Ho here. I think that this is a really great sculpt and it really captures the character’s essence, at least in my opinion. This is one of the few instances where I like a later version more than the original sculpt. What I don’t like is the oversized M-60 that he comes with but the little American flag he has makes up for it. |

General Flagg: he's a great new character,he sported a very nice military look and accessories, and his catapult was fun to play with! |

this one is a toughy... I agree The D.E.F. had strong molds (although Bulletproff looked like someone out of the group Cameo) I was tempted to go with either Cutter or Mutt & Junkyard, but then again Roadblock looked ok as well... Barricade just looked too much like robocop,.. until you took his helmet off, then he looked like your second grade music teacher. |

Barricade. Awesome toy. Just a blast of a figure to play with as a kid. Or you know, now. The armor is cool and even his missile launcher works for him. |

1. Duke! Excellent desert outfit. 2. Big Bear. As said, great mold for Oktober Guard. 3. Bullet Proof. A little bit back to basics: camo-uniform, simple helmet, backpack and gun. Nothing special, but that's what sometimes makes a fine figure. Tim 121RVC |
