Like some of you, I invested in J-Man's latest venture, the custom display base. Normally I don't go for these sorts of things but there was something about these particular displays that intrigued me. The two themes I picked fit in perfectly with my two favorite sub-groups - arctic and ocean.

I have to say that for handmade displays the quality is above what I expected. Not factory perfect but close enough that I am quite satisfied. The construction is solid and the addition of screws adds to that durable quality that you don't always find in handmade products. The base paint is clean and the background photos are adhered flawlessly. But what really makes these special is the texture applied to the bases. On the arctic base the texture resembles a field of slightly windswept snow, similar to the background photo. The ocean base has a wave texture that looks like water should. The paint applied to both bases accents the texture and gives it that added dimension of realism. Alone as simple art pieces these work. I could definitely see myself displaying these on their own but when you add figures to the mix they work even better. These look great with my 25th Joes and I'm sure they'll work just as well with ARAH, Star Wars or whatever figures you happen to collect.

Overall I am impressed with these and for the price I feel like I definitely got my money's worth. I've already got ideas for a special base for my custom Rock 'n' Roll figures.

And now some pictures.

The company sticker on the back, a very cool touch.

Just about the right size for a small raft and a team of SEALs.

Closeups look amazing and diostory writers will definitely find use for these.

I got mine today, and I already added my enthusiastic recommendation in the thread in the marketplace. This thing is superb.

They look great.

now the only thing i might like to add is
because of the solid nature of the ocean base there does not seem to be any displacement which makes it seem a bit off (understandable of course).

Would a painted soft layer of that foamy stuff they put as inserts with computers work in that that would create the illusion of displacement?

I'm really glad you guys like them. I worked at trying to figure out a good way to make sure these would be as best as I can do.

I did notice that the snow base looks like it has a little smudge or something on it. Maybe a little newspaper ink from all the packing? I put a heavy clear coat on it so you can wipe it with a very slightly damp tissue or cloth. I'd suggest dabbing as I haven't actually rubbed the backdrop hard to be able to say it's safe. I'd assume so as the material used for the backdrop is suppose to work on a car. I just like being safe though and just say use caution.

Again I'm really glad that you guys like these. I hope that the future projects yet to come will be even more to everyone's liking.
