Ok, so I am taking the day off for my birthday tomorrow, and decided that I wanted some new toys to play with. So I hit the local Zellers and went to a place in the mall called "The general store" that has a whole bunch of little displays from other stores (generally at a specialty store markup).
I hit the Zellers, and not only did they have Canadian carded BATS/Ninja Ku wave of figures (another BATS for me!) but they have the Iron Grenadier wave of comic packs.
Fresh, untouched, just put out on the shelf.
So I grabbed myself up a Destro/IG pack, then look a little closer, and there's the black mask variant. I pick it up instead. I debate over the Nem Enforcer pack, but I put it back on the shelf.
I get to the checkout, and I have to wait, they're loading the sku into the computer and have to hand enter it.
The cashier says to me, "They're 10.49, do you want it?"
I gape in disbelief. They're usually around the $16-$18 mark up here for a comic pack.
I say "Not only do I want it, I'll take another one too!" so I picked up the Nem Enforcer pack as well.
At the general store I then find the Megatron/Optimus animated 2 pack for 12.99. They also had a few of the joe vehicles for $17 which is a few bucks cheaper than the retail stores (but I passed. I'd already blown the toy budget). Usualy General store has markups of about 50% over what you'd pay at retail. Lower than retail? I had to pinch myself...
So all in all I had a great pre-birthday toy buying spree - which should lead to a great birthday tomorrow.
If I can get all these darned twist ties off of my new transformers.
