We've been talking about this at joereloaded and IDW's boards. Looks like the page count might be innaccurate, since the second volume speaks of Duke, Roadblock and Storm Shadow, none of which would show up in the first 440 pages (if each TPB was only 220 pages, or ten 22-page issues).

Based on IDW's Classic Transformers TPBs, we're probably looking at around 14 issues per trade. The first TFs trade collected Marvel issues 1-16, but excluded #s 3 and 9 because they featured Marvel-owned characters (Spiderman and Circuit Breaker, respectively).

Of course, that does mean those of us who bought five $25 trades from Marvel in 2002 will be dropping another 80 bucks before we get a drop of "new" collected content.

Personally, I don't care. I just hope this time we get Annuals placed in proper chronological order, and that we can avoid printing errors like the page-misprint in Volume II, Issue #20.

I'm hopeful that the details are preliminary since I'd like to see "Hot Potato" back in print :)

Will there be any difference from the ones that came out in 2001?

From what I've read IDW is re-scanning all the books and making them the best presentation ever seen for this series.

I'm not going to put my hopes up on that Amazon info though. They have been wrong about this kind of thing before. We do know TPBs are coming but until I see a news release from IDW themselves I'm not putting in an order.

Unless there is a VAST difference between the IDW trades and the Marvel trades -- like, totally recolored or something -- I'm prepared to wait until the IDW ones catch up to the Marvel ones, which I do own. But once the IDW trades get to issues beyond that -- heck, yeah, I'll get 'em. I have all of the original comics, but there's something to be said for the convenience of trade paperbacks.

I agree 100%. The only way I would get the new ones is if they reprint Hot Potatoe and the year books.

I just hope they include all the original letters pages. Then everybody can see how many times a certain board member wrote in to Marvel. ^^^ ;)

Of course, now we have the problem of whether or not this series will actually be completed. The last one ended after only 5 volumes. I didn't buy any but if I did, I would have been pissed to be left with an incomplete set. (Much like I am with the cartoons on DVD.) I feel like if I buy these, I am taking another risk. Then again, they are only $13.59 a book? That is cheap! Probably worth the risk.

That's Amazon's price. Probably 20 bucks cover price.

Either way, we overpaid big-time from the Marvel trades. 10 issues at $25 bucks a pop, coming at a time when GIJoe was big with Joe Fans, but wasn't really breaking borders into other media. Right now, there's a much better chance to wrangle in general comic fansas well as bandwagon riders who will start buying Joe-things in the run-up to the movie, hoping to sell them for big bucks once the fad is on.

Probably a much better chance of getting the whole run now then there was back then. IDW also have a more realistic expectation for sales. Marvel wanted a top-seller and a big-time cash grab. IDW just wants to make these available for fans to own.

I just hope they don't base their decision on sales of the first few... since there will be a number of people who don't buy those because of the existing Marvel reprints.

Well if they stray A LOT from the original continuity for the new ongoing comic book, this reprinting will be a little awkward for the new fans

:rotfl:

That someone wrote in almost every issue, the question is how many times he got printed.
..Ahem... :shifty: :shifty: ..I don't how pathetic that sounds... but I have the answer to that...I've counted them :-D

Not at all. "Classic" is a phrase that tells people "this is old, it may not be relevant, but it is *classic*.

The same way there's Classic Transformers trades, the Dreamwave reprints under the "Generation 1" title... the back of the book will clearly mark these are reprints of older stories, and not part of the new ongoing series.
