Post subject:  Joe/Indy/SW lines cross-use of molds

A looong time back, I asked if anyone thought we'd see Star Wars figures get re-released with new paint jobs and new heads as Joe figures.

While it didn't happen with SW molds, it has happened with the convention Cobra Commander using an Indy mold.

When the 25A Stalker was released, everyone correctly predicted that Stalker's out-of-date firearm would show up in the Indy line and it did.

The stupid SW arena playset was retrofitted as the stupid Cobra Mountain playset.

The Mustafar playset will be released as an Indy playest.

Cobra Commander's throne from the Imperial Procession (sp?) line was originally a Jedi council chair (I think).

What other cross-overs do you think we'll see or would you like to see?

I'd like to see:

Henry Jones body w/new head released as Dr. Vandermeer from the original cartoon series.

German soldiers w/new heads released as Red Shadows. There are already some amazing customs of this.

Toht body w/new head as Hector Ramirez.

Marion body w/new head as Dr. Knox.

Cairo Henchmen w/webgear as middle eastern fighter. This one's unlikely to happen, but it could.

While these would not have the 25A articulation, they would be uses of the molds, which won't be doing anything after the Indy lines peters out.

I sure as hell hope they don't start reusing Indy or SW figures in the Joe line. Articulation has always been one of the prime reasons I've collected Joe more than other lines, and I don't want to see the days of the T-crotched Joe figure return. I'm all for using accessories, vehicles, etc., but unless they want to modify the molds for 25th articulation, they need to stay out of the Joe line.

Meanwhile, wasn't Roadblock's spytroops mini-gun reused as a Star Wars clone trooper accessory at some point? And don't forget the ultimate cross-over in recent memory, Joe figures with new (or sometimes just remolded) heads used as Hulkbusters in the Hulk movie line. The Night Ops Humvee, too.

Articulation isn't as important to me. I wouldn't want to see the bodies for single carded figures. In the case of many of the figures, they'd go well in sets. Dr. Vandermeer could pop up in a DVD Cartoon-type set. Does Dr. V really need super articulation? Nah...

Yes, one of the Clone squad sets (5 or 6 clones packaged standing up inside of a cardboard transport backdrop) used a Joe weapon.

Can't believe I forgot about the Hulk figures!

FTFY. Regular everyday articulation enabling a fig to do regular everyday motions isn't 'super' articulation. In fact, unless you're making a SpiderMan fig that can get into some of them wacky Ditko poses where he throws his hip up behind his shoulder, there is no such thing as 'super' articulation.

I think it'll only go as far as exclusive figures, accessories, and vehicles/playsets. Having bought the Indy troop car today, I could see them releasing it in black and with a Cobra sticker on the flag. Not that I'd want them to, but I guess it could be a possibility.

AGREED! They don't have to be able to do the splits, but I really wich the SW figures had some lateral movement in their hips. I can not get Chewbacca into any pose where he doesn't look like he's doing the pee pee dance.

Honestly, I'm excited about it. For years people have clamored for a unified scale/construction across the major lines. That way you can put Qui-Gon-Jinn vs Storm Shadow and not notice the glaring differences between the two.

I do agree with Darko that if they do meger all in to one construction they need to use joe articulation.

That would be my issue with it as well. Articulation is a key factor and it's also a reason that keeps me from buying a lot of the Indy and Star Wars stuff. Out of those I just get certain items, what I like best. Even still I haven't even opened all of my Indy stuff due to not really being that into the figure. I got the ones I wanted due to liking the character, not the figure construction.

So no, I don't really want to see them use full figure construction with G.I.Joe. They can take parts and resculpt them if it's going to be part of the hip.

What should be done and should have been done long ago is throw out the t-crotch style. At this point and time we should see a full range motion figure in all toylines as standard. The t-crotch shouldn't really be something they do unless it's a cheap knockoff that is poorly made anyway.

Doubt unless they want to fork over $ to Sean

it certainly looks like the new comic pack CC has the indy russian chick's sheath.

It's not. Cobra Commander's sheath is functional. I'm not sure if it was used before, but it's not Spalko's. Hers isn't functional at all.

Why would Sean get any money for a fig *not* using his head? I really rather doubt Sean did his own costume designing and got royalties for the use of it in his TLC contract, lol.

If a character is wearing a robe and is not expected to do martial arts or anything other than slight leg movements... I really don't care about leg articulation. It's like when they added legs to SW Royal Guards... WHAT WAS THE POINT? I was useless articulation.
My only concern is a uniform look to a line. I think the Cairo Thugs with new arms might make for decent Joe figs. But most of the figures are thicker bodies and wouldn't look good with the joes.

Sure, Henry Sr never did any side kicks or anything, but it WOULD be nice if I could put him on a horse... Or motorcycle.

No side car action for Henry Sr?
