In another thread, Nova said, "Pretty sure these DVD box sets are the Best Joe product to hit shelves since at least 1991."

I agree with that assessment so much that it merits its very own topic.

Since the rebirth and re-rebirth of the line, there have been figures and toys that I've been very excited about. ARAH, NS, 25A- doesn't matter to me, I like all of them. ARAH comic packs with the Oktober Guard, all of the new characters introduced during the NS run, and the concept of the 25A figures- there have been some great things over the last few years. Don't get me started about how excited I am to see Para-viper, the Green Shirt 5 pack, and Wraith coming out soon! New characters in the 25A line!

But there's something about the DVD sets that really have a magic all their own.

For the most part, these are "just" repaints- but they're very, well, fun. Glowing Snake-Eyes! The Baroness in scuba gear! Stalker with a JUMP! Timber with yellow eyes! The repaints of Lady Jaye (with its new head), Destro, and Roadblock are more vibrant than the previous versions. Even more surprising, I'm a fan of the comic book much more than the cartoon, but these figures are better than the "comic book" inspired figures so far.

Has anyone else got this vibe yet?

Dude, they did a Build-A-playset with the MASS device. Everything else is just gravy. Like if this had just been the MASS DEvice part and a couple of repait figures I would have bought it. But no, they included some wicked accessories and cool, on point figures and the carton movie in which they all came. Plus one of those accesories happens to be the Weather Dominator. How cool is that?

I'm not the biggest 25th fan on the block, but the Weather Dominator is almost enough to sell me. That is seriously one of the best accessory like items for the Joe line ever!! And the fact that it breaks apart to it's 3 base components is gravy. The only thing that would have made it better is a chair for Destro to sit in, but I'm not complaining, I love the Dominator toy.

A close second goes to the MASS Device accessories for Snake Eyes and the Cobra Trooper. The element specific accessories are the types of attention to detail that have long been missing from this toyline.

I fully agree, the DVD box sets has a little something for everyone. I already own all the cartoons released on DVD and I have no interest in building a MASS device, but some of the figures are a blast! For years we've been screaming for a cartoon-accurate Lady Jaye, and here she is. And if this is the only way to get Dusty then I'm sold! Purple cartoon-accurate Snake Eyes? Where's the beer?! If you like dios then the elements and the Cobra solider's flatbed dolly is for you! Missed the DVD's? Have a set!

Couldn't agree more on these sets. That diver Baroness is long overdue and a cartoon Stalker is just plain cool to have.

The dvds themselves are vast improvements over the earlier release. Previously i had to sit thru an intro/outro for each non-existent commercial break, as well as the full intro, credits, and recap for each episode. Part of the completist in me is happy to have that version just because. But for a more pleasurable, streamlined viewing experience, these are the way to go, as each miniseries now runs basically as an uninterrupted feature-length movie.

While the missing chair does hurt the Weather Dominator, they made up for it with a nice caveat in that you can attach the WD to the Mass Device and at least give :destro: a platform to stand on :snakenana:

Don't forget how the weather dominator breaks apart ;) you can have joes vs. cobras hockey now! :D

I agree. With everything you've all said. These sets feel like a steal at $20. The majority of the figures are very cool (Destro and Lady Jaye being far cooler in hand than I ever could have imagined) and the accessories are a blast to have. The cartoons on DVD are a great addition, and something I'm still a little surprised they pulled off for the price point.

DVD's are crazy cheap to make. The one i'm wondering about the most is the baroness figure since it seems like it's the only "new" figure out of the first two sets. Everything else should be very cheap/profitable for hasbro to do.

We got characters we never thought we'd get, and some great updates of existing characters.

To tell you the truth, this shows that a lot of fans actually like a crew of the same characters but sold in different ways. Like a glowing Snake Eyes, a Scuba Baroness, a Jet Pack Duke, and Cobra Trooper (whatever version). Something I thought for a long time

GI Joe needs its main cast. I like new ninjas/troopers too, but the main guys will always sell

I just got the Mass device set, and I love it except for the fact that Stalker didn't come with his jetpack blaster or cable. Its a small thing in a great set, but they put pictures of it on the box.
The Baroness is great, athough I wish they did her mask more like Torpedo's, so she could actually have a face, and her fins would be removable.
I'm waiting to pick up the Weather Dominator set. I'm really just interested in Lady Jaye, so the other stuff will be custom fodder.

Though there are a great many movie-haters, I'd love to see the B.E.T. as a build a part set or release by itself.

Yeah, I could see the BET getting this treatment.

I am thoroughly impressed with the dvd packs, well done, Hasbro.

when normal figures are 7 bucks a pop, somehow this set has 3 or 4, a dvd, a piece of the the device, and cool dio stuff, for 20 bucks.

Wow.

I'd call the packs almost perfect but a few minor problems that get to me just a little bit.

The MASS device as a build a figure is just pure gold. Just a really cool thing we never would have gotten any other way and it ends up as a reward for having the dedication to get all the sets.

Totally love the figures that we would not have gotten any other way like radiation Snake Eyes, and diving Baroness. Love the little extra gear like the cart and I really want to track down the other current set for the Weather Dominator.

My only minor little problems are that I wish some of the figures were offering a bit more in the way of things we aren't going to get any other way. Stalker, Destro, and Roadblock just don't seemed to be enough only in the cartoon packs like the Baroness, Snake Eyes, and Lady Jaye. Would have also been nice if they could have improved the quality of the cartoon for todays better entertainment systems and perhaps a few extra features like video file cards or something.

Still even with those minor nit-picks I really love the sets and they seem like a steal for all the goodness you get for the price.

Well, I had basically given up on GIJoe and turned my attention to Star Wars because of the lack of new stuff in my area, when what do I see, but the freaking DVD packs at my Walmart. I was forced to buy Revenge of Cobra.

Weather Dominator. Very cool. Needs a chair, though. Also, Destro's deformed hands can clutch the handles. Still, very cool little device.

Destro, just great. Finally a paint job worthy of him. Needs more accessories, but I'll just give him the gear from my five-pack Destro.

Also, this Lady Jaye rocks. Why Hasbro has never made Sunbow Lady Jaye before now is a mystery. It is the definitive look for her as far as I'm concerned. She needs swivel wrests, though.

Roadblock is only the really throw away fig in this pack. Almost feels more like an accessory for the vines. Heh heh heh.

I’m going to have to watch both releases of the Revenge mini-series to see the differences. But overall, 20bucks for all of this is a GREAT deal.

More sundow goodness, please Hasbro.
