So the Wally's by my office had all the CW and Legacy stuff out before the launch date- not having any cash I placed a few behind some boxes- today all were gone save for the one Captian Rex which I got...I think is face could make a decent General Rey or a Serppy, or even a pissed (angry) 9th Dr. WHo .....but WHY IS HE A BLONDE?

Also it looks like Hasbor has borrow the IJ artifact in a crate to make Clone Gear...crazy

My understanding is he isn't actually a clone, he is probably one of the first volenters who got into what would become the stormtroopers (since Lucas is claiming the Stormies aren't clones) but then again I haven't read the bio on the back of the box to know for sure. That is all from rumors.

In the Republic Commando Novels some of the Clone troopers dye their hair when working undercover.

DNA doesn't encode for what a specific hair follicle will do. This is why the cow clones we've made don't have identically-patterned hides. Hair follicles will go a certain color based on whatever hormonal information is being sent to them by their neighboring cells. Since no two cells are *exactly* identical (in terms of exactly the same number of organelles in the same exact location in the cell body doing exactly the same things at exactly the same time), no two hair follicle cells will have the *exact* same hormonal environment to determine what color hair they'll produce. Additionally, having identical DNA doesn't mean the two individuals have cells in exactly the same place.

All that being true, who's to say the Kaminoans haven't tweaked Jango's source DNA to make different hair colors - in pretty much the same way they tweaked *all* the clones to make them have submissive personalities.

Basically, all 'clone' means is that the DNA is identical, not that the individuals are identical.

Did anyone mail order that Captain Rex figure from the Star Wars mail in offer? I got a postcard a while back that they would ship in late July.

Um -- (checks calendar) -- guys? And if you're going to put the same figure in the stores anyway...

Honestly, while I'm looking forward to the Clone Wars movie and series, from a toy standpoint, I tend to prefer the more realistic figures. Of course there's supposed to be a mess of new ones of those, too, right?

The animated-style Clones look to be close (haven't seen 'em in person yet), but a little less detailed and look to have rather skinny arms. I'll have to think about that.

Guess I sort of wish Lucas had gone a bit more realistic with this. I know it's supposed to be a CGI version of the Clone Wars animation, but I was never terribly fond of that style anyway, as good as the story was. :-/

I heard Captain Rex was actually going to be called Captain Sonny and he was from Southern Kamino... :shifty:

My work-local Target had put them out briefly (I snagged Grievous to see if I could make that keen Banshee BAT from the Con display), and from what I saw of Toon Anakin and especially Ben in Clone Armor, they weren't instantly dismissable. I think the toon-styled figs are being aimed more at the kids due to the action-feature weapons and such; but judging just fron what I saw in the package, them two could've been acceptable. I didn't think they looked any more animated than 5-pack Duke looked when he first popped up.

Of course, I'm not interested in any more Anakin figs and there's a proper Ben in Armor fig coming out anyway; so it's a non-issue for me overall. Just sayin'.

Captain Rex looks to have white hair, not blonde. So maybe he's from the very first batch of clones and is an "old soldier" so to speak?

And the mail in version has a shaved head. So it's NOT the same figure.

I got a good look at the figure, his hair is definently white.

Since this movie [and characters] are pre-order 66, I doubt any of the troopers are non-clone, yet.

It's still the Republic's Clone Army, just as it was from Geonosis all the way through EpIII. Taking volunteers or recruits for the Stormtrooper corps, wouldn't have started until after ROTS.

I did. Still haven't gotten mine. Thought I would have gotten it when I received the Docs since I sent the checks out on the same day, but I haven't heard anything about it.

On the two the boys have it definately is.

Though under TRU's flourescent light it does look almost a Blowtorch blonde.

The clone troopers are becoming individuals and thats why Rex has blonde or white hair. The NEW Clone Wars movie coming out in August describes alot of new things clone troopers are doing. They had Star Wars weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios and we had a behind the scenes tour eith the producer of Clone Wars. He was there telling about how the clones are tring to identify themselves as individuals and not just another clone. It was pretty neat to see of of the new ideas coming from Lucas Flims. The reason some of the new carecters look kinda cartoonish is due to the new movie is computer generated like Ninja Turtles was.
