This year's con set wasn't as diverse or interesting as the set from 2007. But, it did have some redeeming figures. While Hotwire isn't perfect, he is something we haven't seen before in an ARAH style Joe figure:

Enjoy!

You waste no time do you. ;-)

I collect characters rather than figures, and Hotwire was something that I desperately wanted.

Until I saw him.

That parts combo does not work for me, nor does the head. The jacket doesn't come even close to fitting, because it was designed for the Hannibal mold, and not for an RAH figure.

10 out of 10 for originality, 2 out of 10 for execution.

Yeah pretty much.

I would have loved to have seen a new head, or at least something new to us. Or worst case something rehashed that doesn't look like a roided out hydrcephalic.

But Blanka? BLANKA? No way does that work.

I think that he is a really neat figure and somethign I definately wasn't expecting. I'm not exactly sure I understand the white lab coat over a white shirt, but I'll let it slide. I'm just happy to have a new character to add to the ranks.

White shirt under white lab coat looks OK. If not, you end up with oddly colored sleeves and a different shirt, the way a lot of SW Jedi figures are (or at least used to be), such that if you take off the outer coat/ robe, the figure looks quite weird.

And if you look closely, you can still kind of see Blanka's fangs.

On top of that, it was also quite odd to see Hotwire referring to himself in the third person in the comic.

Good profile. I hope you're right about the prices coming way down in a few years. This was the one convention item that I was unable to afford and really wanted.

For some reason I'm thinking he should be younger looking then what the Blanka head gives us.

Why, I think it could work just fine on RAH :shifty:
Image

Still, finding a torso that fit just right wasn't easy, as I had to use the wide TBC Gen. Hawk torso.

Anyway...

Mike, you said this:
Quote:
Hotwire was created using the torso of Hardball, legs, waist and arms of the Laser Viper and Blanka's head.

Now, not having the figure in hand, I was wondering if the biceps are Laser Viper's or not. It seems that they aren't muscular like LV's. Maybe these are Hardball's. Any chance of that?

And for my $.02, I love the concept and this figure. It's so whack that it works perfectly, IMO.

I'm with you on this. It isn't horrible consideing the frankensteined parts, but it isn't really as good as the concept could have been. Sure that might be the best available head for the character. But it isn't the best possible head someone could have come up with. The body is ok and the coat is ok, but they could have been much better.

I didn't follow the Con figure thread, partially due to not having access to the laptop (some stuff wouldn't load).

Since once again I didn't get the chance to go to the Con and get the figures myself, I have been checking out the various online sources for the parts recipes should I decide to try my hand and customizing the ones I want.

This review was the first one I've seen that offered a parts recipe breakdown. I knew some of the parts fortuantely and have started going through my fodder boxes to get the parts together.

Thanx for the review...

He is one of those figs I am on the fence about, I can see him as Mindbender's lacky as you said, but the rarity makes him a bit out of my price range. If he were to come down as you predict then the thought would cross my mind.

I love Hotwire, it ranks in my top 5 favorite con figures. I love that the file card art has him looking like Eddies Munster's doll, Wolfie. The figure is pretty wild looking, but I think he is right at home next to a V1 Mindbender, arguing about some scientific theory or something.

What the?
For a second I thought I'd posted in this thread! Dude, did you steal my old avatar?

As for Hotwire, I'm actually a big fan of the original design, as seen in the Transformers crossover and AE#25. But this thing is... dare I say, an Ambomination. Not my favorite Club figure ever. However, since I don't buy the Con Exclusives (won't until they start using 25th molds... so figure 2025), my opinion doesn't really matter.

But still, dude, did you steal my old avatar???

Hasbro would like to speak to both of you about using their published copyrighted material without permission. :D

I scanned that page from the old marvel comic several years back and had Dan Moore make it an avatar for me for YoJoe. If you look REAALLY close in my custom Cobra Mobile Command center here, it should be there on a wall as a tiny poster.

I've been using it here for a little while, but don't post often.

EDIT-ehh, i checked the pic and it is wayyy too tiny to find it.
