I REALLY hope they don't go with the blind-bag concept on these. These are amazing and I would buy quite a few if they were offered singly or as "army-builders", but the whole blind-bag concept seems like nothing but a money grab.

Very disappointed if they choose to go that route.

I understand both views, but I agree with you Chief. I really want the Anubis kit.

Guess I'll find another way to build my Anubis warriors.

Wonder if these parts are going to be available later, but not in a raw form for customizers. Doesn't really make sense to create such nice pieces and invest in their production, then make them exclusively blind-bagged. Are they so certain about the line's success?

Really dig the Anubis, Cthulu, crab, and robot, and would expect those. If I spent a bunch of money on these and got multiples of the boxing kit, I'd be livid. Assuming positive intent, it's hard to not see this "strategy" as a cash-grab.

I'll stick with Dianauts, thanks.

EDIT:

I think what sorta rubs me the wrong way is the advertised "GUYS THIS IS FOR CUSTOMIZERS!!1!!"-- a random bag of parts doesn't help me when I'm working on a specific project. What helps me is finding exactly what I need, ordering that precise part, Paypal-ing it, and having that s___ shipped to the Lab.

It's like being a mechanic, needing to fix a Ford engine, ordering the part, and they randomly send you a Mercedes bumper.

I don't understand "blind bag" stuff that cost more than baseball cards. even as a kid i'd buy single cards I wanted from a shop before gambling on packs. now with it becoming so standard for small kids toys shopkins type stuff and adult toys too it seems forced upon us. almost like they want a hedge against one set outselling the others ,but in reality making a second hand market way more profitable then their own.

I couldn't imagine any of my other hobbies doing this.

My thoughts exactly. Marauder Inc is the perfect model for this with their MTF figures & parts. You can get exactly what you want and as many as you need.

I know BFS has worked their asses off to deliver us great product and build goodwill through the community since day one. So that's probably why the blind bag idea hits such a sour note with me - it's the kind of thing the big companies do when they know you'll shell out your $$$ to get whatever "LASER BLAST" they decided to dump in a bag (see Legos). Really hope that wasn't the intention here, but I worry that this move might put a ding in that hard-earned relationship. Random fodder for what I expect won't be cheap is the exact opposite of customizer-friendly.

The blind bags they offered before that were essentially leftover parts made total sense. But in this case, you'll have specific items that people would be willing to pay good money for, but don't want to make it a crap shoot. And if we're being honest - I bought 3-4 of those previous grab bags and have yet to use a single item from any of them in a custom.

I think the blind bag idea for the seller is meant to prevent the not so popular figures, which are hard to predict, from being left over and being a drain on them. It sucks for us to a degree, but if it keeps them from sustaining large and damaging monetary losses and allows them to keep producing more figures, I guess that's the trade off. Maybe if they had an alternate ordering system for people who wanted to choose specific numbers, but had a delay in delivery, that would be nice, but might not be possible with their manufacturing process and what not.

I don't think it's a strategy to gouge us and make gains as much as it is a strategy to avoid losses.

There are more engaging ways to try and figure out what fans/consumers/customizers want--

-Fan polls
-Social media reveals
-In-person feedback at shows

...Not perfect solutions (or meant to be), but a little bit better to me than blind bags. Now, we don't know how they're planning to roll these out. Are they going to be totally random & weird, like some of the LEGO blind bags, or will there be themes?

I'd be WAYYY more willing to spend some disposable cash if I at least had some kind of heads-up of what I might get. Themed blind bags could at least ensure that the gal who needs an alien piece will at least get something she can work with, and the guy who needs to finish his Ali might be able to do that with a sports-themed pack.

Still feel like these parts will eventually be available via other figures/sets (like what was done with the unpainted MOTU Reaction figures) so I'm not really sweating it.

Chief 100% nailed it when he said it just seems contrary to all the goodwill they've built up with the fans; specifically customizers. At least it hasn't dulled my enthusiasm for the upcoming kits.

Except that boxing one :-p

The knight looks cool.

I also like the look of the Anubis kit. No real interest in the other kits. Definitely not a fan of the blind bag approach.

Being in the UK and the international shipping rate that they charge, I feel that I need to put in a substantial order to make it worth it. Since the original KS I've only made one order. That's a contrast to Marauders who I've ordered from numerous times over the last few years. There is no way I would order a blind bagged kit, pay the international shipping when there was only a small chance of me getting the parts I actually wanted.

According to Dave from Boss Fight, there will be a "Master Box" offered that will have all 6 kits in it. He did not specify off all kits would be the same color or randomized though.

Hell, I'd rather they sold them *only* as box sets than randomized singles.

Agreed.

I share the same sentiment as others. Blind bag concept sucks.
I passed up getting those other grab bags because there was no guarantee I'd get anything I wanted or needed. I'd rather buy an accessory pack or carded figure to get exactly what I'm looking for.

At least as a set with these, you know exactly what you are getting.
Blind bag, I could order 20 packs hoping for a Crab Man and Anubis, and get neither.

Eff that.

If it were a matter of not knowing what will sell well, why not just take pre-orders? They've done them before...

The more I read the "There's absolutely NO WAY to know what's going to sell" argument, the less water it holds. There are a lot of ways to gauge interest before rolling them out.

Just seems like a lack of imagination, honestly, to say there's no other way.

Puzzling mis-step for a company usually on their game. Star quarterback's trying to take the field with a basketball :shifty:
