I do believe this is the final installment. At least that is what I read somewhere.

I'm fine with this being the last SDCC crossover set. I only care for the Starscream and Jetfire items for the most part. Plus, availability is so much of a hassle, I'm okay no more SDCC exclusives.

is Jetfire capable of space flight? the boosters make me think he should be. a fighter jet in outer space is a great idea.

The Robotech VF-1 can fly in space. Since Jetfire is a Valkyrie he can too. I know he flew in space in the comics for sure. I cna't remember if he did in the cartoon.

In the toon, I recall him being called SkyFire, which I thought was cooler.

I think Jetfire/Skyfire in the cartoon made the trip to Earth on his own and crashed at the pole and was frozen, so I guess that means he was capable of space flight. Even if he used a space bridge.

I think he ferried the Autobots to and from Cybertron in The Ultimate Doom. It's been a while since I've seen it so I would have to look it up.

If I remember correctly, in the cartoon, he came to Earth without an identity. Both the Autobots and the Decepticons wanted to get to him before the other side, the Ds because he was a superior plane than the Seekers and a stronger/bigger robot, the As wanted him so they could finally have someone who could kick butt in the air. The Ds got to him first, tried to manipulate him, but he didn't feel right, so he went to the As, but still wasn't fully trusted by some of the As. In the comics I think he was always an Autobot, just thinking back to the commercial advertising for him ("The Autobots, tired of time and time again being defeated in the air, decided to create their own [something]...they created JETFIRE!)
Of course, I could be talking completely out my backside on all of that.

As far as a fighter plane in space...watch "The Wrong Stuff" one of my favorite Joe episodes. They add a booster to SkyStrikers and fly them into space...and somehow the control surfaces of the rudders, flaps and ailerons still work, whereas in reality the planes would have to have been fitted with rockets and maneuvering thrusters. But hey, it was still a fun episode

In this case, yep. Mostly. :-D

In the cartoon Skyfire flew to Earth with Starscream on a scientific expedition, before the Decepticon and Autobot war. They were out cruising the galaxy, as scientists, when they came to this primitive (prehistoric) planet. They went in for a closer look, and Starscream "lost" Skyfire in a storm near the pole. He looked for him but couldn't find him.
Then millions of years later the Decepticons found him while on one of their energy gathering schemes with some crystal shaft thing that tapped in to the Earth's core. The Decepticons did indeed what him because of his size, but when he refused to kill some captive Autobots (being a scientist not a warrior), his old buddy Starscream blasted him. The good guys helped fix him and thus he changed sides.

And yes in the G1 cartoon Skyfire could fly in space.

What good does it do to have a plane in space?

Well, that stinks. Part of me wonders, and I really, really hate to ponder this, if they're concerned about G.I. Joe's continuation beyond the movie and somewhat post-movie product (like the Eaglehawk). Of course, next year is also the 50th Anniversary of G.I. Joe? Could be a factor.

For myself, I'm sure there's more they could do. The RAM as Arcee with Scarlett would be a nice small set, or a part of a larger set.

They've been great sets. I didn't get SkyStriker Starscream. I did, eventually, manage to get Shockwave HISS, and I really like the BAT from that. This set? Yeah, hoping for a winning lottery ticket, too. ;-)

The answer to both, always and forever: Chicks dig it.

Arcee would be better done as a Silver Mirage and I could see the Earthquake done in Constructicon colors maybe with Major Bludd as a driver.

AH, OK, I stand corrected. I haven't seen that episode since it aired originally way back when. I knew there was something there about the two teams fighting over him. Makes you wonder how Starscream went from being a scientist to being, well, Starscream.
