I thought the chrome was silver plastic all the way through?

I haven't cut into his meat yet, but I believe so. I'm talking about the joint pieces, though. Those are gray with silver paint on the disc rims.

Oh. Well that's unfortunate.

Eh, I think you guys are making too big a deal out of it, since it's really a lacking of toy production technology. I'm not aware of any toy that gives the effect y'all are expecting. It's an item intended for customizing, so get your kit out and customize it, y'all.

It's what I'll be doing in the next couple of weeks after I'm done with the black dude.

Hey gang...I've been reading through this thread and am truly bummed that some of you guys aren't happy with the chrome blanks. I really am sorry if they didn't live up to the "chrome" moniker. Getting a good chrome or even a solid silver look in action figures is tough and it can only be achieved with paint. So, yes, the figures are cast in grey and painted silver before assembly. There is no silver cast color plastic. The closest there ever has been is a few ML Ultrons and maybe some Iron Mans from a few years ago. That effect was done by making the plastic slightly transparent and it wasn't truly a silver/metallic color. It also would very often swirl the plastic colors very noticeably and inconsistently. So, we did the best we could and we think they over all came out great. I did up a Captain Atom using one (I'll try to post pics next week when I'm back in the office) and I never noticed the paint coming off on my fingers at all. Anyway...I hope most of you guys like them and can find some awesome custom recipes using them regardless of what you we're hoping for.
Hugs and kisses-
Erik

any chance you could cast them in aluminum ? I have been making some aluminum jewelry for my wife and it is as light as plastic and gets chrome shiny when buffed. if the demand is there I'm sure some factory in china can cast an aluminum figure.

I just got my first blank and accessory pack for a custom. I can't believe I haven't checked these out sooner. I can't describe how exciting these things are.

Metal-casting vs plastic-casting is literally a whole different industry and technology that I'm sure is much too troublesome an endeavour for the benefit it would reap BFS or we customizers.

modern firearm casting "MIM" is exactly like plastic casting. I cast with lost wax which is more trouble than it is worth but MIM is the future.

I can order 1:18 AK metal keychains from china for $1 shipped, i'm sure they can cast metal figures for far less than the $30 each, what a hack costs.

casting in metal is not equal to casting in plastic when you're discussing mass manufacturing. You have to factor in weight, tolerances, materials, tool longevity (tools made for running metal don't last as long), and the fact that you can't use the same tools that we run our plastic figures in...which means paying for all new tools. Metal on metal doesn't make for a nice tight poseable joint and most of the articulation points would be lose or non-working. Our assembly and aesthetic are all completely built and dependent on the PVC/ABS materials that we use. We'd have to sculpt all new figures to run them in metal (which costs more to begin with) as our forms have undercuts that can stretch out of the tool when they're still warm. A metal form would have to have no undercuts and them you lose some of those nice human forms. It's the same with ABS. Which is why only our crotch is ABS plastic. Which is why we can't vac-metal an entire figure as you can't electroplate the softer PVC. Well, you can, but it won't last or hold up to constant wear and handling.

i'm not a manufacturing expert and i'm also not yet a customer of bfs, just to be clear.

it's different but no harder for china to make real ak47's or mardi gras beads, very cheaply. that's why so much of our goods are made there.

this was my first hit with an image search, not mine. might not even be real, but not impossible.

I won't post any more off topic to this thred. you have a successful line and I wish you well, honestly :like:

Isn't that a custom one-off, not made through mass production processes?

no idea AV, just the first image I found. not proof of anything but that fully articulated metal figure is not impossible.

I know! I went in for the Marauders kick starter, which are great, but I still haven't done anything with them. Do I skipped the Vitruvians because I didn't know what I'd use then for. I got some skeletons in the damaged sale, but man, the way the blanks pop apart, how perfect the accessories fit... so great.
