My question is if they are worried about how the movie will perform, why are they putting another $30 mil (estimated) into it to convert it to 3D? If it's a bad movie in 2D, it will be a bad movie in 3D, and will have cost even more to make.

because they think they can sell the gimmick.

for whatever reason Hollywood follows certain mantras, gimmicks sell. Whether it is 3-D or an A list actor. A lot of studios don't even count the big names price tag in there spending. The idea being Tom Cruise costs 40 million, because people will spend 40 million just to see him in the film, so it's a wash. They also don't count marketing when tallying the cost. So Joes current marketing will just fade away into some unknown loss book that will not be mentioned when they come out with how much money it makes.

it is all a lot of shell games and scamming.

Well this is a little disapointing to hear, espically after seeing Ray Park debut a Snake Eyes centric tralier at Star Wars Weekend last Saturday in Orlando, Floridia. I wonder if the 3D is really going to help it, Clash of the Titans was later coverted to 3D and still underperformed at the boxoffice.

As for the tie in toyline I wonder how this going to affect it. I remember reading that two different Jinx action figures are going to be at Comic Con in San Diego in July.

This is very much in line with Hasbro's previous history of making sure that toys and the media to promote them are never seen together (such as what happened with Resolute and Renegades toys appearing long after the shows had been killed).

I agree with all the people saying there are probably some other reasons than just the 3D conversion for delaying the film. With all the money already spent on product (not just toys, but all the tie-in crap) and advertising, etc, there is just no way they would pull a summer 'blockbuster' movie this late in the game unless they had some serious misgivings.

I also wonder how much say each company had. Does Paramount get final say about such matters or does Hasbro? I'm sure it is spelled out in the contract. Whatever the case may be, the total inept mismanagement of our favorite brand is roaring full steam ahead. Its like the Hiatus all over again, which was a monumentally stupid business move back then as well.

The good thing is those Jinx figures will be unaffected since they are classic themed.

What I keep seeing under the surface is that this is a massive and mystifying move, and that something HUGE has happened, although what it is exactly may never be known.

Also, who is to say the Rock and all these other people are going to be available for press junkets in March? I hate to say it, but I never figured out how much I wanted to see this movie until they took it away. Weird.

Yup, Battleship sank Retaliation.

That's the obvious conclusion.

If I were a retailer, I'd never order anymore GI JOE product. "You told us a move would be out to back this stuff up. Now what?"

Sit on it for a the better part of a year? Hope that it sells to people besides collectors...somehow.

Send all the toys back, they can tool up better vehicle drivers! :-P

This is mind blowing and disappointing. Don't have much else to add. Just seems like a really dumb move.

The dumb move was making the Battleship movie in the first place. Was there anyone who thought that sounded like a good idea, ever?

And if that really is the basis for this move on Retaliation (and I tend to agree it seems that way) that falls into the 2 wrongs don't make a right category.

There is a potential undercurrent to the story though, which could still be that Retaliation is a good flick, and they are simply protecting it from the stink of Battleship, or from unfair direct comparisons to the Avengers, or at least thinking they are doing so in their own minds.

Any chance the toys will help sell the movie instead of the movie selling the toys?

Have you seen the toys? If that's what we're relying on then this film is screwed.

That's a great point, and one that could have some truth to it considering all the positive buzz the movie had going for it. Let's all try to think on the bright side and remember this could end up being a good decision and one that helps the movie and the brand as a whole.

And while the current buzz has obviously now been killed, it's not impossible to buil that buzz back up by next March. Especially not when you've got The Rock doing pub for you.

Ever since I heard there was a Battleship movie years ago in the make, I knew it wouldn't go over. Even if it happens to be a good movie people had their minds made up.

There was talk of Hungry Hungry Hippos, Chutes and Latters, Candy Land, and Barrel of Monkeys. That's not just Internet jokes either.

But GIJoe may not have tested well. We all know how they get people in as a test crowd. They pitch the movie under a different name and take input. If these people all hated it and if anything else showed it not to do well, they probably would want to fix some stuff. After Battleship bombed, it would only be natural.

Thank you exes for making this movie FAIL!!! You give us the hype. You give us the trailers, and now this. Any interest will surely go by the wayside with 2013 release. Crack heads! I'd bite for a Christmas release at the latest. Stupid Hasblows. Stupid Paraclowns.
