well, if i can chime in...

ive been to a million conventions since 1990. as a seller, we used to do conventions every weekend in los angeles and san diego for years, from 1991 to 2001. as a buyer, ive been to a million conventions as well, including james desimones GI Joe conventions of the 90s.

i can honestly say that MCs conventions are the only ones that i truly enjoy. im sure that meeting and hanging with the JC guys make up a large % of my enjoyment. as a dealer, the set up, sign up and overall treatment by master collector really isnt bad. they do everything they promise to do, at the beginning of each con brian walks around to meet and greet everyone to see if we need anything. beyond that, they stay out of our way -which is what i prefer.

are there some things they can do better? absolutley, but overall i would say they overall rank them among the better run conventions ive been a part of. as far as MC as a collector club goes, this is the only one ive ever been a part of, but plan to join the transformers one soon. overall, my experiences have been fine. the mauler thing did suck, but crap happens. since they obviously have a ton of money into them already, i suspect theyll continue the work on them and release them at a future date, or perhaps hasbro will. theyre not going to simply take the loss.

I agree. While DeSImone did a good job, his shows were not well done. Not too mention his exclusive figures, I do not want to go back to that! People just like to hate and complain, but if Brian should lose the club and convention, then you will see even more complaining and hating! Not just from the 3 3/4" crowed but the 12" crowed too.

Oh and last year attendance was up, the number of sets sold for both scales were up, and club membership is up, so yeah they are doing great.

Too bad that's your opinion. There are a lot of valid reasons people are unhappy with Savage and Master Collector, and you're dismissing them.

I could be wrong, but I think he's suggesting that people would be complaining over the lost exclusively produced items.

I bet the official answer is oil prices, just what happened in the 70's.

Un-officially, it's because they have realized that they can get away with it.

Also, anyone read the fine print - JoeCon is now a registered trademark of Fun Publications. I guess he want's a couple of cents every time someone says anything about this yearly gathering :D.

I can honestly say I might be disappointed, but I'd very quickly get over it. The stuff's getting really expensive. I plan on quitting the Con items when they phase out ARAH as it is.

Agreed. I dont think anyone is in the club for any reason other than the exlcusives. JC.com has a more 'club' atmoshere to is than MC im afraid. I probably shouldnt say that out loud as Beaver might start charging us $39 a year (but he does take paypal).

I should of been a little more clear, people will always hate and complain no matter what the club does. Nothing Brian does will make some people happy, they just do not like him and want him gone. If that were to happen then you can bet that the conventions and exclusives will suffer for everyone. That will make even more people mad and there will be a whole lot more complaining and hating going on at Hasbro and who ever tries to take over.

I agree there are some valid complaints and Brian is working on them. But you have to look at alot of this from his perspective, eventhough some of the solutions seem simple, they are not. Everything Brian does has to be approved by Hasbro, that can cause alot of delays. Also with Hasbro taking a bigger intrest in the Club and Convention (the color newsletter, opening up the club forums, ect.) we are seeing many changes.

HMMM I must respectfully disagree here. I have found in life that kind of additude tends to be a justification for people doing whatever they want no matter how much it effects people or how much a contrary opinion is voiced. I have seen many a terrible manager say "Well people just want to complain." and of course they do and perform poorly at thier jobs as a result.

Not the exact same thing but an example.

Now of course you truely cannot make everyone happy, but saying people will complain just opens the door for no other input or opinions that might be benifical or detrimental. In fact I would argue some detrimental opinions can be helpfull in some cases. But still if you cut it off because people will complain anyway the benifits of a different opinion will not be viewed.

A more open dialouge with the fans would be helpfull. And I mean those who don't want to pay for the privilage of the forums that we feel should be free (like this one).

For instance, Brain Savage to me is a spectre of the Joe community (or maybe bigfoot, I have heard of him, never seen him, but know people who claim to have), I have only heard speaking of him in messages, I really am not sure who he is, and with some of the things I read I am not sure I want to know him. Now is it that everyone complains about him. No, its that somethings said sound reasonable, and they are said very publicly. Some things are said in privite (rumors and such) but are given even more credence by the public posts.

Now do I have anything agaist the guy, Not really, but I am not sure from what I have heard if I want him running the "offical" GI Joe Club that is supposed to be for fans (ie Me).

Hmmm...a public forum where those attending could ask him about his supply problems...

I don't like the idea of the Headhunters joining Cobra. In my Joeverse they are a seperate entity.
I can't wait to see the figures though.

Wow it's next to a mall. There is a TRU nearby too.

How much is a walk-in admission? I'm not sure if I'm going. I've got relatives in Ft Worth so I may visit them.

The price of gasoline I am paying now is in the same ball park as when the last convention items were made for the September convention. And this wasn't long ago either. So I am not buying this excuse either. I am not buying the whole re-tooling factor either as this isn't the first covention set that molds had to be re-created.

In addition to unofficial excuse that they can get away with this, MC will never admit that the price hike is so largly in part to re-coup their losses from the whole Mauler screw up last year. Like any company that screws up, it's the customer that usually pays for it.
