I agree, it's a better slot for the movie. An the positive buzz the movie's generated so far will keep other films away from it -- at least paramount will hope.
But toywise, this seems a major debacle.
1. Will retailers continue to order product after this news?
2. Will Hasbro retool the packaging moving forward?
3. Could the dollar general toys be moved into mainstream retail to fill shelves for the summer?
4. Will we ever get the POC night-viper, CG and Flint?
5. Saddest Joecon ever?
Let's hope it can maintain that positive buzz. Heck, even I liked what I was seeing, and I didn't have an especially positive opinion of the last movie.
Your #1 question is the biggie, and right now, there's no answer to it.
#2 - I'd be surprised if they did. Depending on how much Retaliation stuff hits NOW, there's no great reason to.
#3 - I'd be stunned if this happened. Those toys have been made and shipped. I still find myself wondering why such dramatic recolors, and more than that in some instances, were produced for that market. It's not like they were just repackagings of existing figures the way that sort of thing has tended to be in the past.
#4 - If we haven't by now... I only knew about the Night-Viper, and haven't seen pictures of it even. But it does raise the question -- what happens to the toy line between now and the movie?

Seems like they would have been already thinking in the idea of 3D before now. Gotta be more to it.
It might just all be a matter of timing. I tend to agree there's more to this than just going with 3D, but Lord only knows what.
