really... cancel renegades cartoon. cancel the poc line which was pretty damn good. collectors club gets hacked. switch movie to almost a year later. i seriously am so fed up with something that I used to love as a hobby. just can't quite explain how irritated I am with everything GI Joe the last year or so. just infuriating.

not really sure if all the _____ like this is really worth my time anymore. just not getting the fun vibe at all.

I agree, they are making it *real* hard to give a "LASER BLAST" about GI Joe anymore.

I just got an announcement in e-mail from the Club, confirming this.

Personally, I couldn't care less about 3D, and I wouldn't be seeing it in that format regardless.

My greater concern is for the toys. I can't imagine this being good news for them, and there were some (especially in the later waves), that I was looking forward to.

No G.I. Joe movie toys have turned up here to the best of my knowledge, either.

The worst part about is that everyone's first reaction is disbelief because nobody thinks this is a good move. The movie and the toyline had momentum. All of a sudden poof, its gone. I'm with you guys, the Joe brand just went down the toilet.

Also, all street date restrictions have apparently been removed by Hasbro for the toyline.

Yep. Big push to get whatever stock is out there on shelves before the public catches on. Try to sell what they can before it's clearance land time.

The movie toys will all be on Ross & TJ Maxx shelves by the time the film is released.

So what do they plan to do for toys? After the initial movie batch in stores now is out, then what? They have literally nothing ready to go, not if they want to hold the rest of the movie stuff back for the actual film release. And in 3D? I don't know about anyone else but I just can't stand watching films in 3D like that, the red/blue tint form the glasses never sits well with me and it hurt smy eyes after about 10 minutes.

In a way I have to think this was on purpose. I do firmly believe Goldner hates the brand and wants it to tank, and he's probably at least partially responsible for the delay. He just wants an excuse to can the line and having nothing to sell would do that. It just seems too boneheaded a move to do on accident. The first wave movie stuff is out, then when that sells out they won't have anything ready to go until maybe Christmas, unless they just pump out a bunch of quick repaints and part swaps. Taking the current dollar store wave idea and expanding it is about all they can do, they can't just sell the entire movie line a year before the movie is out. But I don't think they'll do that. I have a bad feeling about this because it seems a little too purposeful to be someone's stupid decision. It's like airing Renegades, then not having any toys out until after the show ended.

This is a Paramount decision, not Hasbro. Your conspiracy theory doesn't hold water.

A friend of mine believes that this is actually a smart move movie-wise since the summer is already crowded with probable blockbusters -- Avengers (which has certainly proven itself), as well as Batman and Spider-Man.

Also, the new release date, although hardly in the summer market, is right around the time of next year's WrestleMania. Possible cross-promotion with The Rock?

My concern remains with the toys. Current supply gets snapped up, but how extensive is that supply? I've see nothing around here (and believe me, I intend to go looking!). Does Hasbro call back what they can? Repaint it for the movie? Release the later waves which perhaps aren't as movie-connected? I don't really buy the notion that anyone at Hasbro wants to kill the line. If this was a decision from Paramount, then Hasbro might be as upset as anybody. And let's also remember, 2014 is the 50th Anniversary of G.I. Joe. I honestly cannot believe they don't have something positive in mind for that.

I agree, it's a better slot for the movie. An the positive buzz the movie's generated so far will keep other films away from it -- at least paramount will hope.

But toywise, this seems a major debacle.

1. Will retailers continue to order product after this news?

2. Will Hasbro retool the packaging moving forward?

3. Could the dollar general toys be moved into mainstream retail to fill shelves for the summer?

4. Will we ever get the POC night-viper, CG and Flint?

5. Saddest Joecon ever?

Seems like they would have been already thinking in the idea of 3D before now. Gotta be more to it.

This isn't just a studio move, something has made Hasbro stop everything, while having millions in advertising, that just went to waste.
You don't throw away multi millions in advertising, unless something is very wrong, and something cannot be released.

I might even bet, something might be going on with a struggle between Hasbro and Paramount power. We had issues with ROC in regards to licensing, now we have a huge delay...after the commercial failure of BS.

typical re-shoot, is generally 9-months... and you can shoot the whole thing in 3D first, instead of spending, about 30Million to convert.

just saying... I work in the industry, you don't halt a movie for 9 months, for time slot.

Let's hope it can maintain that positive buzz. Heck, even I liked what I was seeing, and I didn't have an especially positive opinion of the last movie.

Your #1 question is the biggie, and right now, there's no answer to it.

#2 - I'd be surprised if they did. Depending on how much Retaliation stuff hits NOW, there's no great reason to.

#3 - I'd be stunned if this happened. Those toys have been made and shipped. I still find myself wondering why such dramatic recolors, and more than that in some instances, were produced for that market. It's not like they were just repackagings of existing figures the way that sort of thing has tended to be in the past.

#4 - If we haven't by now... I only knew about the Night-Viper, and haven't seen pictures of it even. But it does raise the question -- what happens to the toy line between now and the movie?

It might just all be a matter of timing. I tend to agree there's more to this than just going with 3D, but Lord only knows what.
