Congratulations to the winner. I can see why it won though. I never followed the international Joe characters so Red Laser was a really nicely made custom but I had no clue who he is. Swarm was a nice looking custom but it didn't look like or "feel" like a GiJoe figure to me.

There were a few other customs in the initial voting that I really liked but they were knocked out for a variety of reasons with weird voting or just no way hasbro would ever display it on their site (half-naked Baroness).

Like I had said previously I really hope this is the last time their is a custom contest sanctioned by hasbro. I just don't think much comes out of contests for customs and would love to see the community get rid of them entirely, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Anyway congratulations, hopefully we'll see a Ripcord figure at retail pretty soon and if it comes close to this we'll be in pretty good shape.

Did they actually say at some point that the figure would be made by hasbro, or are we just assuming that? Because last time I remember seeing anything, the prize was still TBA.

Yep, I can see it. Would add yet another reason why I'm getting fed up with Joe fandom too. Just cruise along on the laurels and give out only the same ol' same ol'. Anything new or different gets _____ on or ignored. It's stagnant.

Oy, ain't it true.

Not all Joe change has been golden but it does sort of seem if it's not slavish to past then it's got to be pooh.

See, that's my feeling on the Ripcord. It doesn't feel like a Joe to me. It feels more like a BBI or 21st century figure. SWARM, on the other hand, would make a cool Cobra addition. It'd obviously get "dumbed down" a bit detail-wise to be mass produced (I doubt we'd have seen a LED in it for instance) but that's a chance to see something new that we couldn't have expected regardless of the contest. I could see Hasbro having Ripcord or even Red Laser already planned for production... it's not a stretch for them to do them given the parts and that they are established characters that they can fall back on. To paraphrase Mike T., I'd rather see something new and unique mixed in with my nostalgia but I'm getting more convinced that I won't find that or the support for that in Joedom.

I'd kind of like to know what kind of reaction that BBI or whoever's gear that is gives when they find out their products are up on hasbro's site lol.

Also, was there ever a picture of the ripcord figure without the gear on him? I only saw the ones w/ the stuff on, and can't really see the figure itself..

It's that we aren't always the best people when it comes to change. Some fans were ready to pick up the torches and pitchfolks because Sigma Six dared to be the "wrong" scale. I've read post from people who don't want to give IDW a chance unless it follows the Marvel stories. And I'll admit I'm one of the people fairly upset about the Joe uniforms we've seen so far for the live action movie.

It's one thing to give something a chance and not like it, but sometimes we react too quickly because something wasn't GI Joe from the past enough.
