If you work for a major corporation you don't get to touch anything in your office if you are let go. Security will escort you to your office for only your necessary personal belongings (ie wallet, coat, purse). Everything else is already boxed up and will be mailed to you. Your computer, work files, etc. will already be gone. It is cold, it is calculated, and it will most likely happen at the end of the work day on Friday. So no one will notice you're gone.

Of course I have seen many corperation go lax on security. Last major coperation I worked for security consisted of whatever supervisor was on duty at the time, generally speaking your screwed in a crisis.

Mike is right on with this one. Much of this grossly depends on the type of work environment one has.
Two things prevented me from keeping anything on or in my cube..theft, and productivity. I just had pix of the kids, and I took a photo cube and had my daughter's ballet recital pix in it, with her crown as the topper. It was filled with mints and such, which got emptied every night and day by those with no problem helping themselves.

I used to change the pix often, and was chided more than once because the direct reports did not appreciate the staff making "pitstops" at my cube to check out the latest photos.

Even on night shift, things in your workspace can be a problem. I was once doing a freelance portrait of a coworker's girlfriend, a huge work, at my office. I did it there during my break only and made sure it was off to the side, between the wall and the cube. Couldn't work at home because the Mrs. at the time was one of those that hated to see anyone creative doing something that didn't involve them. Long story short, when I came in after a week or so, someone had run the picture through with a ballpoint pen. The pic was well hidden, but they went through the trouble of doing that just for kicks.

Had my archery jacket taken the same way. This zippered jacket was emblazened with JOAD and Olympic Archery patches, as well as some from the trade corps. They took it, knowing that they couldn't ever wear it at work.

Best to leave mementos at home, or if you're lucky enough to own a den, like my father-in-law, there.

you guys should see some of the "geeks" at Lucasfilm's cubicles, talk about excessive. But then again, that's probably encouraged there.

Reminds me of a little episode with a friend of mine one time, years ago. He was totally unknowledgable about toys and didn't even really like toy stores. But he asked me to get him a Buzz Lightyear action figure to display at work -- work being a creative computer arts studio -- just so he could fit in a little better...

If I worked with him, I'd complain that I'd be in there all day trying to buy up some of those sweet Destros!
But seriously, it's okay to have a fig or two, especially if you work as a graphic designer, etc, but he has a lot of stuff, and I wonder if the Joes cost more than the cubicle? :rotfl:
