Yeah, I meant subjective. That's what happens when I start typing one sentence and then try to cobble it into another.

I think the target audience is female sci-fi fans. The last few years, there has been an awakening to the fact that women like this stuff, too, but want more representation in it. I think the idea is take a franchise that has proven successful and combine it with a director and stars that have proven successful.

Pandering? Sure. Or just targeting a relatively new demographic. I just don't see why that's a problem. All movies are trying to appeal to some specific audience to make money.

Akroid and Ramis wanted to make another GB movie for a loooooong time. I don't know how much pandering the studio is doing if it has been in the works for over a decade.

Back when Eliza Dushku was tied to it, there was talk that it would be a generational thing where the passing of the torch would be like the passing of the family business down to the kids.

The only reason to hate this cast is if you hate SNL.

I'm mixed on the cast. I can't stand Kristen Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy was better before she was trying to be the new Chris Farley, but Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are two of the brightest spots on SNL.

The whole thing is stupid. There shouldn't have even been a Ghostbusters 2, let alone this nonsense. Why? Because you can't catch lightning in a bottle. I was pleased every time I read that GB3 couldn't get off the ground. Regardless of the cast.

I must say I agree. Vigo was hilarious at times, but it was not a great movie. It was not as bad as a Caddyshack 2, but I don't think we would miss it if it never existed.

The only good thing I can see here are the packs and hand cannons they have. The rest is garbagio... crappola including this politically correct nonsense. And today I read Hemsworth is playing the secretary.

I thought they were 1:18th? Or are they 1:12th? Why do they always make these things 6"? If I had them I guess I might shrink down the heads.... they look ok enough to shrink. But to use for what?

The best movies were made in the 80' and 90's IMO... and as the 00's turned into the teens it's mostly evolved into crap. ... but there is hope; Ridley Scott is making a sequel to Prometheus.

But I did think McCarthy was amusing in the stolen identity movie.

"I need the large girl body in our scale for "barf" from spaceballs, besides that they would only be a bargain bin purchase at best." ---2Dark2see-- LMAO. I'm still learning how to post here. I wanted to put that one in a box.

You gotta hit the 'quote' button in the bottom right of 2D2C's post, then type your stuff either before or after the [ quote ] tags his comment will appear within.

And Ridley making a sequel to Prometheus is no big whoop now that Noomi Rapace won't be in her own movie. Looks like she's gonna get Hicksed&Newted between movies and the flick will be about Fassbender's head, or whatever.

ahhh... here we go.

But really Noomi was in a heck of tight spot wounded and on an Alien space craft. David prob. did her in. So you have colonists going to 'the perfect' planet. What will be there? Aliens... Predators? Scott said he was going to make it 'shocking'.

I'm not a fan of this new Ghostbusters for what may be touchy reasons to some. It's a cast of 4 women as the Ghostbusters. It's just not believable. (I know, it's Scifi, I get it. But still.) This is not me saying "get back in the kitchen, woman!". I'm not saying a woman can't be a Ghostbuster. I'm saying the entire team being comprised of women is just simply not believable. If 1 or 2 were Ghostbusters, then I could buy it. But this movie was intentionally scripted with all women as members for the sole purpose of pandering. I look at The Force Awakens. The female character, Rey, turns out is a complete and total badass. She is a perfect fit for the Star Wars universe and was flawlessly performed by Daisy Ridley. That is girl power. Now make Finn and Poe women too. Hell, lets add Kylo Ren. Would anyone feel right about it? While the world is changing, there are still types of movies and toys that boys and girls usually shift opposite directions on. Most boys like action movies and they want to play with male characters because they can relate to them. Most girls like a softer or more fantasy type of movie with girl characters they can relate to. This mix of the 2 is something I just don't see will appeal to a broad enough audience to be successful.

I don't know, it's a beloved franchise with well-liked actors in it -- my prediction is that it will do just fine.

....or maybe kids like movies with characters of their own gender and up until very recently, hollywood has put men in action movies and girls in 'softer fantasy'.

And really, is a group of all women being badass more unbelievable than an average group of men? Have you *met* an average group of men? I'm reminded of this Onion video
http://www.theonion.com/video/report-av ... hts--36322

Remember, the original Ghostbusters weren't highly trained special ops super soldiers, they were parapsychologists and a random guy who responded to a want ad. I don't see why it's more believable that they would suddenly be able to step up and fight the forces of darkness just because they have external genitalia.
