2nd wave cost has gone up $15. What do you want this will help determine that we are willing to pay an increase in costs for next years set.

Mark my words. The 2013 convention will cost $360 for a box set.

That's nothing new. Costs go up every year and will continue to.

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about this. The sets are too expensive to begin with, the other night I saw a buy it now for a chinese dial tone moc that was only like 33 dollars or something. But the club's kitbash is like 200. There is something wrong with this picture. Carded 80's footloose for maybe half the price of the new production one. However, for people who bought this set at such a high price whether at the con or on the aftermarket, making more seems to be decreasing the "exclusiveness" of the whole thing. Pay crazy high prices and then they be not so exclusive. So I don't know. I say make 2000 of them and sell them for 100 bucks each. That makes more sense to me.

What happens if the set is a flop? The club has made large runs like that before and ultimately got burned because they didn't sell as well as they anticipated.

They may have made large runs before, but never sold them at reasonable prices, like what Turner is saying.

From what I gather they are only making the number preordered. So if only 100 sets are ordered then that's all they'll make. They won't have any leftover to sell at closeout prices in a couple years. That's the impression I get from their postings and email. Reality however is another story.

That is what they said, but I don't buy it. I'm sure we'll see a few loose sets going at the Con auctions over the next couple of years.

All these additional con sets that have to be produced, are the FSS figures already made? Or are they still in limbo?

With all the talk of production numbers being the main cause of pricing, i don't see how they could do a run of 100 sets or less and not take a total bath on the deal.

but yeah Turner sums up my issue with modern collecting and forced scarcity.

I'm not sure if the Club plans on doing this again, and I'm sure there is a financial motivation as well behind this move, but I can see the justification for making an extra run with this particular set. Thanks to the severely late registration start, these sets sold out rather quickly and didn't give everyone the usual time to get registered. I didn't personally have any trouble getting the set, but I did miss out on the customizing class even though I registered within two hours of the initial e-mail being sent from the Club (I did later get in the class after being on a waiting list) - in years past, I've never had any trouble signing up for the class.

Hopefully there will be ample time to register for the 2013 so that this situation can be avoided.
