Best bet here--hit an AC Moore, if you have one, and look at the Papo 3 3/4" medieval figures (they do a lot of knights, wizards, etc.) The figures are solid and the weapons glued in, but they have some VERY wicked looking swords, and removing them is a simple matter of boiling the figure and sliding the weapon out. If you're handy at engraving/painting you can add runic scrollwork along the blade. Best of all the swords tend to be of a good, stiffer plastic, not as flimsy as say, POTC; the figures can be a bit pricey though, around $5.99 each.

That is very good to know. I wondered if they were thinner or not connected in those figs hands.

So far, I've yet to come across one that was no good (too flimsy). You might have to beef up the grips a bit for some Joe hands (a bit of putty or tape will do) but that should be it. The shields are another matter; I've only found out that can be boil n' popped out, most of the others are glued on and you end up all but ruining them getting them clear. Oh, and the sword scabbards tend to be well-detailed but solid--good if you don't want to sheathe the blade, and they come off pretty easily as well.

Well I went ahead and started my team, with my limited parts and supplies I have gone with Jinx as a starting point. I went with the BatGirl (Micromen) as a base for the body. She will need a new waist which I don't have yet and a new head (but I do have my eye on a couple potential heads once I have the cash to throw around.)

I started on her last night by completely disassembling her to take the waist off. Then tries my hand at Sculpting (Its been awhile). So I sculpted a red dragon onto the chest piece and it doesn't look to bad, surprisingly.. Once I finish the black base paint Ill post a picture..

Questions:
After the black base is applied I want to do the grey on black camo type thing from the 2000 Lady Jay figure.
Image
That looks very airbrushed to me. But I don't have an air brush. Any tips on how to get that look without and air brush?

Question 2: What type of gear should Jinx have that says "Jinx" while also saying "Ghost Killer"?

Question 3: The perfect Jinx head? Opinions? I have a couple ideas but I hate to pay that much for just a head.

Image

Then theres a starwars head "Queen Organa" I believe that looks promising. But again to expensive just to whack the head off and toss most of the rest in the garbage.

So any thoughts or tips?

I've actually had this idea running around my head for the better part of ten years, when I was still in Basic at Fort Knox.

It started out as an idea for a comic, but I think I'll rework it for custom. It was a group called the War P.I.G.S.(Paranormal Investigating Guerilla Soldiers). Your idea was exactly how I'd imagined them. Them main villian was a guy similar to Ra's Al Ghul named Ab By's Mahl,(The Bottomless Death) who'd go around causing all sorts of mystic mayhem with his hordes of undead and other assorted creatures. I could easily rework them to fit with joes.

I guess I have something to work on now.

1: I dunno, it's pretty difficult to get the airbrushed affect without actually using one.

2: That's simple. Just use regular ninja weapons. It's all in the back story, provided you're not to reality-based.

A: pick your source. Family heirloom, found a mission, bought in an old China Town novelty shop, what have you
B: pick your power. Glows in the presence of a certain supernatural creature (much like Blibo's Sting), blade encased in flame or lighting, or made out of an exotic material with "anti-ghost" properties (Jade, crystal), or maybe have it made out of the bones of a long dead demon?
C: give it a cool name. Blue Dragon, Blade of Hachiman, Amaterasu's Spear (or better yet something in a foreign language)

Or, ya know, just give her a rifle and say the scope is tuned into a hidden spectrum that picks up ghosts.

I'd probably use one of those old see-though ninja weapons and her main monster hunting weapon. For the rest of hr weapons, I'd stick with the more realistic stuff.

If you are saying to bring in various experts from the various fields to deal with the paranormal threat, there are two prominent teams that I haven't seen suggested yet: a Ghostbuster representative (made from a Chief Torpedo body with new arms?) & Scooby and the Gang! (or at least Velma)

I can only think of one more actual JOE that should be on the squad: Mirage.

He's already a weapons expert, and he seems like he could bring some needed Tech.

Or you could have Snake-Eyes on the team since he's on every team and then have him partner with Scooby.

Ya know, the guy that doesn't talk and the dog that does. :D

I was talking more about feel than and theme than actual membership.
Although I do like the idea of Egon working on equipment for the team.

Okay, THAT idea I love.

Also, anybody thinking about combining Soldiers and the Supernatural, should at the very least glance though these covers.

Those covers are sweet

PS I would Start with a mystic weapons (Sword, Axe, Staff) Paint er up so she looks rune or such and then a gun (lazer, Electrode firing, special scope etc) finally some sort of detection equipment (Helmet, gauntlet hand held etc etc) and use that as a basic package for everyone

Steve

This is a very cool idea, I can see it being similar to the gate teams we see on the GP.

For the Voodoo Man, I'd check out the Indiana Jones toyline. The Cemetary Warrior and Ugha Warrior might be a good start of what to modify.
