I just finished watching the entire Resolute movie up here in Canada via Teletoon.

Overall: meh, basically because of Snake Eyes. Just too much ninja killing machine "LASER BLAST" for my liking.

Pete - no need for spoiler tags in this thread - it's in the title. ;-)

The ending was very much "meh" for me.

Yeah yeah, tons of guns, things going boom, cobras dying, etc etc.

But I wanted another Joe at least shot!

I wanted a fight between Duke and CC. That ending needed one more chapter. It just seemed very rushed.

They took something that has been pure awesome all week - to something that just went blah. I wanted a real ending. REAL. Have Cobra Commander be shot and bleeding - then go missing. THAT would been far better for me.

Yes, I remember him stating that, but wouldn't you think as a writer he should do more in-depth research and maybe read the original comics run, and watch some of the old toons? Hitting "random fan sites" could result in, say, him coming the the conclusion that Brawler is the OMG awesomest Joe of them all!!1!! Well, maybe nothing that drastic, but you know what I mean...

My point was more that it really came across in his writing that he didn't really know the characters, unlike in all the comics he writes. I can only give him a B- for his effort.

He seemed to have quite a bit of the characters down quite fine to me. I'm glad he didnt just go completely with the old canon, its been done. Couple that with (I cant find the quote at the moment), but he had tons of more dialog written, but he was forced to cut it due to budget issues.

All in all, probably my least favorite section of the series, but it was still fun. Shame to see the new FLAGG go. I think I was most disappointed that there was no wrap-up with the Joe team. They just lost their base of operations and a team member, captured two of their biggest adversaries, and killed two others. They didn't have ANYTHING to say about any of that?

Wow, so much fun packed into so little time. It just kept hitting me again and again how much I was actually ENJOYING this, instead of nitpicking! Helicopters whirring blades, machine gun sounds, ricocheting bullets, Cobra troops on the run, jet fighters fleeing explosions, massive attacks, fun fun fun all the way around!

Man, I hope if they do something else they have to keep it tight and compact like this...the speed and urgency made it great - no time to show anything boring or crappy.

A++!

Yup, not a bad way to end, except that it was too rushed.
It would be a fitting ending to destroy CC along with Springfield.

Some additions I would make is the Joes would be disbanded and tried for making war on the civillian population of America and thereby the government for waging war on its people (that sort of thing).

I would also have Scarlett pick Snakes but Snakes sacrificing himself to do that ending and before going telling Scarlett she should be with Duke, or if they wanted her to be with Duke, make it the other way around or something along those lines.

Oh and as per dictator's losing CC should have killed himself, like Hitler or something.

Otherwise, yea rushed but a decent conclusion.

Well finally saw the end so here are my overal thoughts:

The Good:

Action Sequences (for the most part) were solid. There are a few here and there that had some wonk but could have been much worse.

The main plot was a decent one.

CC had some good moments.

Destro and Baroness have nice new looks I would love to see in figure form. Destro we are getting at least, I hope for Baroness.

About the first two minutes or so of the SE/SS fight.

The Bad:

UGGH where to begin, first off while the plot was decent the execution was right out of sunbow's mini series (Weapon of mass destruction, three locations, wrapped up by a final battle). bugs me a bit we are still at that formula.

Standing in the middle of a firefight without getting hit, while the action was good, there were moments like that which would pull you out of it.

Snake Eyes commando moments, could have been good if not for the fact his coolness is directly perportionat to his enemies inablity to react. And did he run all the way from Japan for that ending, the end put me in mind of Sgt Slaughter tearing up all the BATS in Arise.

While many of the action sequences were good there were a great many moment lifted from other sources Scarlett flipping (Matrix), SE and SS (DBZ with some Kill Bill added in). SE taking the sword to the hand (Rob Roy) When the Flagg went up I had flashbacks to the carrier escort mission in Ace Combat 5, I could go on...

The Ugly

Characters: basicly there were none, Everyone seemed pretty cookie cutter. Finny how I remember foundly how quickly these characters quirks were established in the bygone era.

Duke/SE/Scarlett: Was there really anything there, I saw implications, but for a show that hits you over the head it sure was vauge on that front. Seemed like a subtext to the dialouge that only fanboys could have caught.

Dialouge: HORRID, CC had the best and even he had a terrible line that didn't fit the rest of his speach ("I'm not putting up with your crap" Totally went against the speach patterns and rythum he had set).

Too many "Huh?" moments, like when Flint says "All you got was that limp" after Duke was shot apparently in the chest or stomach (Hard to tell but the blood was in that area). Let alone the fact he was up and running after such a big injury.

Voice actors: UGGGH! not even close.

Death for Death's sake: DD flashbacks is all I got from that,

Resolution: something should have happened after the big explosion.

Really this could have been worse, but should have been better. So I thought this was going to become a series, with half of cobra dead how? It looked more like a final episode with an open end (with CC's little living area not being found). I have to say I am disappointed, not cause Joe "Grew up" cause it didn't, This was not a complex plot, just shooting and killing is the only thing that made it seem adult. Otherwise this was the same kids stuff as always, which is fine, I tend to really enjoy that, except when you try to say it is otherwise.

My $.02:

It was pretty okay. I loved the anime style.

Cobra troopers still can't shoot.

It relied a little too much on comic book conventions (the only people we actually saw dead were Bludd, Bazooka, and Storm Shadow; we saw Zartan shot, Destro and Baroness captured and the shilded unit CC was in wasn't found), and it was ferociously determined to say that this is not the GI Joe of the past. This isn't the bumbling Cobra Commander of the past. This guy's INSANE.

I agree, it could have been better, but I think it was pretty good for what it was originally concieved as. If it had been made to be a movie from the get go, I think it probably would have been better.

Oh, and the hideous engrish at the end made me laugh out loud.

I thought the start was great, the middle wasn't bad, but then it all seemed to fall apart at the end.

Killing off Bludd and Bazooka wasn't a bad mood since it set the tone, but then it seemed like Zartan and Storm Shadow were apparently killed because the writer needed to wrap that part of the story up quickly.

Springfield seemed way too rushed. Should have been epic like when the comic book did the battle of Springfield, instead Snake Eyes shows up and makes it look like a cake walk for the Joes. Seemed really out of place for Duke to use the weapon on Springfield not knowing if everyone in the blast area would be a member of Cobra, lots of empty places he could have aimed it at and the Joes could have still blown up the weapon.

Sort of let down that we didn't get the BATs to see how they would be different in the Resolute Universe.

Still it was fun to have a different take on the GI Joe Universe. Even if it's not going to be my main GI Joe Universe there were some fun ideas in there.

I don't think my brain could handle a weekly dose of that awesome.

I'm kind of bummed they killed some of the names they killed, but still, wow. It was just incredible.

I refuse to believe Storm Shadow is dead. Zartan as well. They are such key players in the mythos. But that ninja ass kicking was soo extreme its un-relaistic to see Snake-eyes walking, much less to see Storm Shadow return from the dead.

This is G.I. Joe, sir. I suggest you check your realism at the door. ;)
